A large biotech company in West Los Angeles seeks a Payroll Specialist. This position is responsible for successful completion of the multi-state, multi-entity full cycle payroll. In addition, this person will perform payroll functions, such as reviewing timesheets, data entry, reporting, auditing of data, printing checks, and sending files adhering to tight deadlines; assist in payroll tax-related issues and generates inquiry reports timely to multi-state agencies. Responsibilities

Serve as one of the lead point persons for our Payroll Practitioners

Provide guidance to payroll staff on payroll processes as well as company policies and procedures

Proactively analyze and engage with payroll practitioners to identify trends and inconsistencies in the payroll process and brainstorm solutions to offer recommendations

Update and maintain current payroll information in HRMS database.

Review and process pay adhering to state regulations and company policies for key transactions such as: Leave of absence, transfers, job role status changes and terminations.

Calculate overtime, pay rate differential and other special pay calculations

Perform payroll validation and complete corrections in a timely manner prior to the transmission of payroll.

Create AD HOC reports to submit monthly and quarterly reports to management as well as to state and local agencies nationwide

Examine and distribute ADP invoice credits to appropriate payroll practitioner (stale dated cks, stop pay, DD reversal, ect)

Diligently provide expertise on payroll regulations, including Federal, State, & Local wage/hour regulations (FLSA) and best practices

Maintain and adhere to internal controls and reporting related to payroll transactions

Be the back up for all payroll practitioners nationwide as well as work with Payroll Tax Analyst with adjusting employee incorrect wages due to erroneous tax jurisdiction to correct wage tax jurisdiction and oversee year-end processes

Service stop payments, positive pay manual check uploads and fund pay card account

Facilitate in reconciliations on a wide variety of payroll audit task detecting inefficiencies

Administrator for multiple applications and systems

Generate GL report and consolidate data

Provide support to Human Resources, operations, and department leaders with payroll processes.

Maintain effective working relationships with other departments.

Liaison between payroll practitioners and payroll management

Assist with special projects as assigned

Requirements

5+ years of payroll experience required in high volume, fast-paced environment

Excellent customer service, interpersonal skills, and telephone etiquette

Strong project coordination, organizational skills, the capacity to multi-task and prioritize operating autonomously

Proactive self-starter, motivated, with a resourceful approach to projects

Understanding of payroll best practices.

Multi-state payroll experience.

Experience operating in a fast-paced, outcome-oriented environment with excellent follow-through

High level of proficiency in Microsoft Excel; V Lookup & Pivot tables

Excellent at working on open-ended problems, running them to completion, possess critical thinking skills and enjoy problem-solving

Data-driven, detail-oriented and able to maintain confidentiality and discretion with sensitive information

Solid verbal and written communication skills.

Ability to quickly learn new systems and programs

Strong work ethic and team player

Solid knowledge of state payroll laws and Federal and state tax regulations.

Knowledge of payroll policies and procedures.

Experience with Payroll Audits and Internal/External Audits

General knowledge of accounting principles

ADP Vantage HCM and Canadian payroll processing experience, and a college degree or FCP/CPP certification are a plus but not required.
