We are AUI Power, a leader in the utility industry. We value the quality of our work and strive for the highest standard on every project. We are growing and are seeking a Substation Electrician to join our team working in our Substation Construction Department.

Essential Functions

Construction, operation, maintenance and repair of electrical substations and switchyards

Works in various types of Substations with voltages from 15kV to 500kV

Below grade and above grade conduit / raceway installation

Below grade and above grade grounding installation

Assembly & installation of Steel Structures

Installation of aluminum bus and strain bus

Installation and maintenance of high voltage circuit breakers, disconnect switches, voltage transformers, potential transformers, capacitor banks

Installation of secondary wiring, control enclosure work and relay panel installations

Applicants with experience in foundation installation are preferred

Provide quality craftsmanship at all times

Minimum Requirements

Must be able to read and interpret plans and specifications

Due to the inherently dangerous nature of the industry and requirements to work with or around hazardous equipment, employees must be able to maintain attention and concentration for extended periods of time

Must understand operations of electrical utility transmission & distribution systems

Must understand electrical hazards associated with transmission and distribution voltage substation construction

Must understand safe work practices and safe work clearances and have the ability to identify potential hazards for all employees

Must be proficient in all phases of Substation construction

Must have the ability to work independently as well as lead a small group apprentices as necessary

Should have experience installing a substation from ground up. This includes working knowledge of equipment found in a substation (transformers, regulators, re-closures, circuit breakers, gang operated switches, circuit switches etc.)

Must be familiar with the basic systems which make up a substation, grounding, control wiring and schematics, cable termination, conduit installation and steel erection

Have the ability to operate the equipment needed to build a substation. (skid steer, backhoe, excavator, crane truck, man lift and trencher)

Troubleshoot-distribution systems

Excellent written and communication skills

Understand blue prints, wiring diagrams, and manufacturers installation manuals

Medium Voltage Cabling Terminations is a plus (not required)

Must be able to install rigid conduit

Must be able to read and understand single line drawings

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Possess electrical skills and have an active certified state electrician license (or be able to demonstrate the equivalent)

Be knowledgeable of OSHA guidelines

Have good written and oral communication skills

Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs


5+ years of experience in heavy industrial electrical work
