Mission

The Data Integration Specialist uses a blend of technical acumen and interpersonal communication to support a growing portfolio of research database products. As part of a cross-functional team, this role is responsible for contributing to all aspects of the value stream and product life cycle, from data acquisition to specification development and production. The ideal candidate thrives in a fast-paced Agile environment and uses their penchant for fact based learning to constantly seek ways to improve. Primary Responsibilities

- Collaborate with product managers and external publishers on requirements for

manipulating data to support key features for new and existing products within the EBSCOhost environment; this includes support for display and searching features

- Write detailed technical database design specifications that describe how to

manipulate bibliographic data sources to EBSCO’s proprietary format; includes writing instructions for mapping data to XML formats

- Use ETL tools to solve problems that help deliver value to our research databases

- Work closely with software developers and quality analysts on product configurations

and complex data transformations to ensure accurate technical implementation of database functionality and appearance according to specifications

- Provide leadership to peers and vendor teams by collaborating with others; articulating

ideas and viewpoints to senior management, peers and others; identifying and initiating projects; managing resources; driving the resolution of issues; and holding self and team accountable for results.

- Support a mix of planned projects and operational responsibilities by monitoring

product health, managing vendor worklists, and analyzing metadata from third party partners

- Analyze third-party data sources to guide licensing decisions and advise EBSCO’s data

partners

- Provide insight into metadata best practices to help guide company-wide data

normalization efforts

- Ability to work independently on complex projects

- Identify trends that impact our workflows and the health of research database products

and contribute to fact gathering and/or delivering solutions

- Serve as primary level two escalation point for requests coming from offshore teams

- Document procedures and ensure compliance

Objectives to accomplish within 30 days:

- Learn the current state of the value stream, attend stand-ups and be able to accurately describe the overall workflow

- Assume responsibility for day-to-day communications with offshore Designers

- Learn Design Specifications and other documentation: how to write them and how they are stored

- Onboard and train on the publisher environment

- Identify two areas of opportunity/improvement within the value stream

- Obtain an understanding of SLS

Objectives to accomplish within 90 days:

- Establish a process for identifying key opportunities for improvement, implement one idea for continuous improvement

- Learn Design principles and practices, shown by one correctly completed design

- Learn how SLS works and complete one mapping as an exercise in familiarity with the tool

- Be positioned to support NES, making sure they have proper training and tools needed to handle their tasks, able to answer questions about using SLS, etc.

- Drive and implement improvements identified

- Share industry trends and best practice recommendations regularly

- Contribute to and/or own internal documentation

- Assist with special projects as needed

Objectives to accomplish within 180 days:

- Establish a process for identifying key opportunities for improvement, implement one idea for continuous improvement

- Review at least 1 emerging technology (either one newly adopted within EBSCO or something totally new) and propose ways it could be leveraged to improve operational efficiencies

- Become sought after, welcomed experts in requirements elicitation and communication for product and feature development by all members of the value stream.

- Represent the interests of data and contribute data history/design strategy in company-wide efforts to create a more normalized content repository.

- Represent the interests of data in discussions with outside parties, including other EBSCO companies and industry standards organizations.

- Contribute to and implement a normalized strategy for transforming/loading/searching/displaying data, building on what has already been achieved for EDS data partners, and following the strategy for the normalized Content Repository.

- Accomplish at least three high-impact quality or process improvements per year

Attention to detail: Does not let important details slip through the cracks or derail a project. Understanding of metadata best practices. Ability to assess metadata quickly, or make a complete, in-depth survey. In-depth understanding of the details/impact of eHost and Admin in database projects.

Collaboration: Works effectively with team members and cross functional teams to accomplish individual, team and organization goals.

Multi-Tasking: Thrives in fast paced environment that works on multiple projects and priorities.

Required Qualifications

• Master of Library Science degree, or comparable experience

• Minimum of one year demonstrated understanding of MARC21 bibliographic format

• Minimum of one year demonstrated experience reading and understanding documents in XML format

• Minimum of one year demonstrated ability to balance multiple projects concurrently in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment

• Excellent technical communication skills, both verbal and written

• Excellent analytical skills and attention to detail

Preferred Qualifications

• Business analysis experience preferred, including project analysis, requirements production and management, process flow documentation

• Experience reading or writing XSLT preferred

• Ability to work well in a team environment

• Familiarity with standard bibliographic format standards (e.g. Dublin Core, JSON, NLM XML, JATS, MARC21) preferred
