Our client has an immediate need for a Tax Manager/Associate Director at their Columbus, GA office. The position description is as follows:

Responsibilities

Works independently. Performs accounting tasks of a complex nature requiring advanced professional experience, knowledge and competency in accounting principles and practices. Responsible for problem resolution pertaining to financial matters. Assists in the development and installation of accounting systems, cost accounting methods, procedures and controls. Reviews the preparation of various financial statements, records and reports compiled by accounting support personnel. Directs and/or assists in the preparation of special studies, reports, analyses and recommendations in areas such as budgets, financial plans, forecasts, government requirements, statistical reports and business forecasts for the financial community or management use. Coordinates with corporate/divisional management on the implementation of complex financial matters. Represents financial management in meetings with other organizations, within or outside of the company, to resolve mutual problems, implement new methods, procedures or budgetary controls.

Tax S&U primary roles will be responsible for the efficient, timely and accurate preparation of sales and use tax compliance obligations and other duties as assigned. Review of capital expenditure and consumable invoices to determine taxability and ensure proper accruals are maintained. Prepare monthly and quarterly account reconciliations. Maintain sales and use tax licenses. Defend tax audits and timely respond to and resolve correspondence and notices from tax authorities. Provide other tax support as needed and / or assigned.

This individual will be responsible for the proactive management of sales and use tax compliance obligations and exposures. Also responsible for the identification, development and implementation of positions and strategies to ensure compliance obligations are efficiently, timely and accurately satisfied while minimizing company’s sales tax liabilities. The individual will also properly implement changes required to both the tax reporting processes and the systems that feed the reporting processes. The individual will be the champion working with the other departments and their IT representatives to ensure continuous maintenance of their processes to ensure accurate data is flowing to the tax processes.

Tax accounting primary roles will assist and/or prepare quarterly and annual tax provision work papers, memos, and other supporting documentation for both U. S. and foreign subsidiaries. Assist and/or prepare the quarterly tax provision in compliance with FAS 109 and FIN 48. Prepare entries for the general ledger for tax accruals on monthly basis. Review or prepare tax accounts reconciliations on a monthly basis. Prepare adjusting tax entries for the general ledger as necessary. Identify opportunities and procedures to implement improvements in the tax accounting process.

Tax Compliance primary role will assist in and/or complete state and federal income tax filings including tax returns and estimated income tax payments. Develop cash forecast of annual tax income tax payments. Assist and/or lead tax credit projects including the Sec. 199 deduction calculation, the R&E tax credit calculation and Georgia state credit calculations. Assist and/or lead in managing state and federal income tax audits of the company. Assist in and/or perform the preparation of several large partnership returns for the company. Coordinate with the tax accounting function.

International tax primary roles will assist and/or prepare International income tax reporting positions of the company, involving collection and analysis of financial and tax data from foreign and domestic affiliates. This is a highly technical environment involving frequent contact with tax and non-tax personnel from foreign and domestic affiliates and other corporate groups. This position includes tax compliance, tax accounting (FAS 109, FIN 48, SOX, etc.), audits (IRS, Internal, etc.), and tax planning. Assist and/or prepare calculations supporting earnings and profits, transfer pricing, Subpart F and foreign tax credits for tax planning purposes, and preparation of documentation for Sarbanes Oxley Section 404 requirements.

Compliance/Systems (40%): Preparation of international tax schedules (5471, 1118, 8871, etc.) associated with U.S. federal income tax return; including analysis and documentation of tax return positions as well as analysis, review of tax data submitted by foreign affiliates, communication with operating companies on data collection and compliance issues, management of tax software used to collect data, perform tax calculations and report international tax data.

Tax Accounting (30%): Foreign tax credit forecasting in connection with the Business Plan process, processing of actual quarterly tax results for financial reporting purposes; communication with operating companies on tax reporting issues, handling of foreign tax credit issues during the course of IRS audits and SOX key control testing.

Tax Audit (10%): Preparation of IDR responses for Subpart F, expense allocation and other foreign tax credit issues during the course of IRS audits, communication with operating companies on tax audit issues, and foreign tax credit redeterminations..

Tax Planning (20%): Identification and implementation of tax planning opportunities (both self-directed and through partnering with other tax personnel); providing of support to corporate finance, treasury and other non-tax personnel to enable business and financial decisions to be made and implemented on a tax-efficient basis. Participation in foreign tax credit, dividend planning, Subpart F, product sourcing projects (plant location studies, supply chain and logistics management, in-licensing and acquisition strategies) including identification and implementation of tax efficient structures and providing tax support with respect to financial decisional models.

All Roles:

Assist with federal, state, and foreign tax planning and tax research projects, including tax basis calculations and projections.

Assist tax lead/managers with requests from external auditors as well as responses to audit inquiries from tax authorities.

Provide support for federal and state tax audits as needed.

Keep up to date on tax legislative changes and incorporate into assigned work.

Work with more experienced team members to ensure proper technical understanding of department’s goals and methodologies.

Qualifications

Education/Experience

Four year college degree and 6 or more years of tax professional experience required. Master of Tax degree preferred. Experience in Tax Compliance required. Experience in a public accounting firm or with a large corporate tax department is strongly preferred. Degree(s) in Accounting and/or Tax is strongly preferred. CPA certification is strongly preferred. Strong knowledge of accounting standards including ASC 740 (FAS 109,) FIN 48, and FAS 123R is strongly preferred. Experience with federal consolidation, multi-state filing, SALT concepts in the southeast, familiarity with tax accounting and compliance software is preferred. Experience in Onesource Taxstream software preferred.
