Histotech – Healthcare Sciences (Histology Technician/Technologist)

Job Description

Title: Histotechnician or Histotechnologist

Shift: Wednesday-Sunday Midnight-8:30am (with rotating Mondays)

Location: New Hyde Park, NY Area

Job responsibilities

As a Histotechnologist, you will perform daily, routine, and specialized histology techniques and procedures, including: embedding, microtomy, grossing, processing, h&e staining, special staining, immunohistochemistry (IHC), and equipment maintenance.

Additional responsibilities of the Histotechnologist include:

• Preparing histologic slides from tissue sections for microscopic examination and diagnosis by pathologists

• Staining tissue specimens with dyes or other chemicals to make cell details visible under microscopes

• Cutting sections of body tissues for microscopic examination using microtomes

• Mounting tissue specimens on glass slides

• Occasional cutting of frozen sections

• Typing gross dictation if needed

• Special Stains

• Maintenance of laboratory equipment

Job Requirements

Successful candidates for the Histotechnologist will have certification by American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) as a Histotechnician (HT) or Histotechnologist (HTL) preferably but not required.

Additional requirements of the histology technologist role include:

• Associates or Bachelor’s degree in Histotechnology or related Life Sciences/Health Sciences degree.

• 1-3 Years of experience working as a Histotechnologist or Histotechnician

• Experience in embedding tissue, microtomy, H&E staining, labeling slides, filing slides, accessioning and grossing tissue

• Must be a team player and be able to work in a fast paced/busy environment

• Must be well-versed in computers and a quick learner
