Mission

Would you like to join a team dedicated to delivering high impact content to students, researchers, and medical and business professionals? As the Journal Content Operations Manager, you’ll coach, guide, mentor, and develop the team responsible for loading 5 million journal articles/year to our online Discovery and Research products. The content is used by a wide range of customers including academic libraries, schools, corporations, public libraries and healthcare facilities. You’ll lead the specialists, analysts, and coordinators who own the end-to-end pipeline lifecycle, from working with publishers, to content extraction and transformation, to product build. This team has a powerful opportunity to improve our end users’ experience with searching, discovering, and consuming the journal articles that meet their needs.

You’ll be a thought partner for your team, the Content Management leadership team, and business teams across Product Management, Technology, and Content Strategy Operations. You’ll also work hands-on with the specialists and coordinators, driving execution, removing obstacles, and helping the team relentlessly improve. You’ll contribute excellent communication skills, passion for team engagement, metrics- and data-driven decision making, and systems thinking in a fast-paced environment that thrives on continuous improvement.

Primary Responsibilities

• Oversee the Journal Content Pipeline team, to achieve their mission of delivering complete, high quality content as quickly as possible:

• Support a team of 10 team members in both day-to-day operations and continuous improvement initiatives, across functions that include publisher outreach, content processing, vendor and partner management, data mapping and transformation, and product delivery to our customers

• Support off-site operation of 250 team members supporting day-to-day operations, and 10 off-site vendors producing value-add processing

• Foster a people-first organization with a strong emphasis on a coaching culture. Champion employee development and career advancement, and continually enhance employee engagement. Act as a servant leader so that team members are enabled to maximize the value they can deliver to the business.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in communication, information, or publishing industries

• 3+ years’ experience as a people manager, with strong coaching mindset

• 2+ years of data management experience – includes experience with relational databases, Excel

• 1+ years of experience with Customer Relationship Management Systems (CRM)

Preferred Qualifications

• Excellent coaching and mentoring skills and the desire to contribute to efforts beyond the scope of the day-to-day project work.

• Strong skills in cross-functional collaboration and influence.

• Superb communication and presentation skills. Understanding of how to communicate complex change.

• Track record of successful project delivery.

• Demonstrated ability to work within an established system while also challenging the status quo.

• Demonstrated affinity for technology. Capable of contributing technically when necessary.

• 1 year+ experience in Agile and Scrum or LEAN/Agile environments. Detailed understanding of Lean approaches and methodologies.

• 1 year+ experience interacting with Tableau or similar data visualizations to analyze data, understand and identify trends, draw conclusions and/or answer business questions, and develop recommendations for action plans based on analysis.

• 1 year+ experience working with standard bibliographic data and content formats including but not limited to: XML, PDF, JATS, NLM, HTML, etc.
