Oversees the 24-hour operation and efficient management of the sterile processing department with accountability for leadership, overall fiscal management, staffing, planning, organizing and controlling.

Responsibilities: Stewards with excellence all resources under their control and contributes ideas for ongoing improvement. Oversight, monitoring and responsibility for productivity metrics. Utilizes and embraces Sonoma Way tools and metrics to achieve improvement performance. Promotes and model excellent communication and teamwork within and between departments by keeping staff well informed, modeling crucial conversation skills and utilizing collaborative decision making. Seeks out problem solving inter/intra departmentally. Trains new staff so that staff is well prepared and supported to handle their responsibilities and provides ongoing education and development for all employees. Assures the safety of staff and department compliance with all regulatory and safety requirements. Responsible for writing and updating all policies and procedures pertaining to sterile processing. Adheres to and promotes all system and ministry quality goals. Advocates for the needs of the sterile processing department staff and assures they have the tools and equipment to do their jobs with excellence. Responsible for (with input from director) the preparation, monitoring and achievement of departmental budgets for staff, supplies and capital. Uses performance management process effectively (coaching, counseling and disciplinary procedure). Supports and fosters strong staff morale in the department. Interviews and hires new employees to build effective teams committed to organizational goals. Fosters collaboration and encourages as well as empowers others to achieve goals. Oversees the ordering of all supplies used in sterile processing (stock and non- stock) and meeting with sales reps to review product lines. Utilizes Sonoma Way efficiency and principles in managing supplies Participates in inter-disciplinary teams and committees as appropriate. Promotes effective communication and contributes to perfect patient experience as appropriate. Communicates effectively with physicians and nursing staff related to SJH contracts and new initiatives. Responsible for the process of “Assets Management” for Peri-op equipment.

Knowledge / Skills / Abilities: Proficiency in Word and Excel preferred. Excellent communication skills. Previous healthcare experience. Previous supervisory experience

Position Qualifications: Education: High School education; BA/BS degree in healthcare preferred.

Experience: Five (5) or more years of experience as a sterile processing Technician or surgical technician/technologist or related leadership experience. Three (3) years of progressively responsible managerial experience in decontamination, sterilization and processing of surgical trays and carts in an acute care or ambulatory surgical setting or related surgical operations managerial experience.

License/Certification: Current Certification through IAHCSMM or CBSPD.
