As the only hospital on Kodiak Island, Providence Kodiak Island Medical Center is the sole provider of acute and emergency care. Accredited by The Joint Commission and designated as a Level IV trauma center by the State of Alaska, this 25-bed Critical Access Hospital plays an indispensable role in the lives of nearly 14,000 residents in the city of Kodiak, the Coast Guard base and neighboring villages. In this position you will:

Provide guidance and support to staff members to ensure that they are able to perform their work effectively and efficiently.

Encourage positive interaction and if necessary, direct staff to work directly with other team members when resolving issues.

Develop and implement work schedules and work assignments fairly, equally, and in a manner which is consistent with staff learning and development plans.

Develop a deep understanding of customer’s perspectives and needs, and works to meet their expectations.

Be responsible for completing and regularly monitoring the departmental operating and capital budgets.

Function clinically as a Registered Nurse and is proficient in all areas of patient care.


Required qualifications for this position include:

Completion of an accredited/approved school of nursing.

Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) degree

Must complete required in-service annually as determined by institution/department

Current licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN) in the State of Alaska

Basic Life Support (BLS) certification within 90 days of hire

Certifications required within 6 months of hire

Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)

Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS)

Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP)

5 years of Acute Care and/or OB clinical experience

2 or more years of supervisory experience

Preferred qualifications for this position include:

Master’s Degree in Nursing, Administration or Business

About Kodiak Island Medical Center

Providence Kodiak Island Medical Center (PKIMC) provides comprehensive health care to residents and visitors of Kodiak Island. This critical access hospital features 25 acute care beds, including four birthing suites, one OB triage room, and two ICU beds. In addition, the Elder House, PKIMC’s long term care facility, has 22 beds.

PKIMC provides an extensive array of inpatient and outpatient services, including emergency department, surgery, laboratory services, maternity, general medicine, physical therapy, occupational therapy, respiratory therapy, sleep studies, specialty clinics, diagnostic imaging services and pharmacy and is staffed by a mix of primary care physicians, surgeons and specialists who provide family practice, internal medicine, obstetrics, radiology and general practice.
