Position Objective:

The Production Lead provides supervisory, technical and mechanical guidance and assistance as the resident expert for troubleshooting and training. Participates in production performance metrics and tracking, provides input regarding employee performance. Drives continuous improvement efforts and leads sustainment.

Role and Responsibilities:

Provide input and assistance to employees and management team on technical issues, problems and potential resolution(s) in a timely manner

Teach associates tools and techniques to increase technical and mechanical knowledge and familiarity to enable them to successfully resolve production problems

Provide immediate support when press or finishing process is down and operate equipment when necessary (i.e. coverage for absence, breaks, etc.)

Review job tickets and verify stock, inks, and dies are available and used as specified.

Ensure that product is printed according to specifications by communicating expectations to Operators.

Provide second sign off for Operators with regard to Quality inspections as needed.

Provide Supervisor with feedback in writing performance reviews for production staff.

Help resolve employee relations issues with the assistance of the management and HR staff.

Conduct training on subjects such as safety, Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), standard work and follow up to ensure adherence

Work closely with the Quality department regarding quality improvement efforts.

Apply Lean philosophy and implementation through Kaizen events, improvement activities and lean initiatives to support corporate objectives.

Participate in Root Cause Countermeasure activities to identify areas where improvement is needed and put a plan in motion to address those areas.

Ensure 6S visual scans are completed as well as 6S standards followed through sustainment activities.

May participate in daily GENBA walks and discussions, with information regarding department performance prepared.

Lead and encourage participation in continuous improvement efforts in value stream to ensure waste reduction, cost savings, increase speed, and on time delivery.

Cascade critical information such as new techniques, procedures, practices, and guidelines to appropriate individuals such as operators.

Monitor key metrics for products in area of responsibility and routinely reviews with management to determine proper course of action to achieve targets.

Interface with multiple manufacturing teams while coordinating efforts with Supervisors and other Leads to ensure accomplishment of overall plant objectives.

Ensure safety, quality and operating standards and procedures are implemented and adhered to.

Report and participate in safety incident investigation while maintaining a safe work environment.

Participate in Safety Committee Meetings as a member and provide feedback regarding any safety concerns or successes.

Qualifications and Education Requirements:

High School Diploma or GED is required. Associates Degree in Business Management or Administration, or the equivalent knowledge and experience is preferred.

Requires 3+ years previous lead experience in a production or manufacturing environment; preferably within the printing industry. Two to five years of printing experience required. Must have experience in manufacturing processes, procedures and techniques, quality systems and standards. Must have knowledge of machines, tools, and technology as well as business and management practices and principles.

Preferred Skills:

Ability to manage multiple tasks and coordinate priorities simultaneously; good time management, planning and organizing skills.

Strong written and verbal communication skills to facilitate conversations with co-workers, management, sales, and/or vendors.

Promote a working environment that encourages employee involvement to achieve operational excellence.

Ability to make independent and sound decisions based on available information.

Experience with critical thinking, creative problem solving and strong influential skills is highly desired.

Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office and the ability to learn company specialized software programs.

Physical Demands:

Works in a manufacturing environment and will be required to wear hearing, foot, and/or other personal protective equipment while performing duties in a manufacturing setting. May be required to stand/walk for up to 12 hours a shift along with stooping and/or kneeling on a regular basis. May handle, feel and reach for items in and around press area, also write or use a keyboard to communicate through written means. Some walking and lifting and/or moving up to 40 lbs. may be required.

Vision: close vision, distance and color vision to distinguish color variations, peripheral and depth perception as well as the ability to adjust focus.

The noise level in the work environment is usually medium to loud.

Must be flexible to work varying schedules and hours as needed. Must be able to work overtime as required by workload and customer mandated deadlines.
