New Product Development Manager - Calgary, AB

On behalf of our client we are looking for a New Product Development Manager for their manufacturing facility in Calgary, AB.

The position of the New Product Development Manager is to lead and contribute to R & D programs. Leads and manages the design/plan/validation and implementation of new packaging technologies, line extensions, package/product improvement and technical service that meet product offering requirements. Works closely with Technical, Marketing, Operations and suppliers to ensure packaging objectives are met and implement effective strategies to optimize packaging.

Essential Duties

Experience must consist of:

1. Plans, organizes, coordinates and leads the development and implementation for key packaging projects.

2. Influences project direction by providing end-users’ input through the planning and decision-making process.

3. Develops product concepts that are innovative, high-quality, cost-appropriate, that satisfies all stakeholders (customer,manufacturing, material, etc.) needs and requirements through the full product realization value stream.

4. Uses prior knowledge and experience to create and build an innovative pipeline with solid ideas.

5. Provides expertise, keeping abreast of technical developments and proposes projects to capitalize (cost savings, innovation,material science, and quality improvement projects).

6. Oversees the development of packaging specifications, in-process control points and establishes testing requirements and operating guidelines. Provides complete, accurate specifications to help ensure the optimal execution of packaging projects.

7. Conducts validation of packaging equipment packaging validation, packaging development, selection of sampling plans for packaging testing, and in-process controls at the end-user level. Supports and manages process validation activities from a planning and technical perspective. Utilizes technical expertise to ensure success upon launch.

8. Conducts deliverable reviews (including design reviews) to make sure projects are meeting requirements and that remaining risks and work are understood, and that deliverables are achievable.

9. Supports, coordinates and conducts trials and start up of new products and cost reduction projects.

10. Ensures all activities in compliance with established safety standards and Good Manufacturing Procedures (GMPs).

11. Creates intellectual property and assists with filing of patent applications.

12. Assists process development, operations and technical groups in developing and implementing process improvements.

13. Prepares, presents and follows up on research proposals and project documentation.

Other Job Duties

1. Demonstrates proficiency in job duties by streamlining processes and procedures and working cooperatively with other team members.

2. Prepares, gathers information, participates and leads Applied Engineering Group(AEG), Product Development, and Research and Development (R&D) meetings to promote continuous improvement.

3. Maintains records in corporate approved software with appropriate documents attached and maintains hard copies of records as appropriate.

4. Performs other duties as maybe assigned.

Food Safety Responsibilities

1. Employees shall report problems with the food safety management system to the responsible person(s). Responsible personnel shall have defined responsibility and authority to initiate and record actions.

2. Employees shall understand the Food Safety Policy, GMP’s, HACCP Principle and Food Safety Standard.

Required Training, Experience,Licenses and Certifications

In addition to performing satisfactorily all of the duties and responsibilities of the position, an individual in this position must possess and maintain the following knowledge,skill, qualifications and/or abilities:

1. Graduate/Bachelor’s degree in related field.

2. 5-10 years-experience in the packaging industry required.

3. 5 years-experience in new product development required.

4. Project Management experience required with the understanding of experimental and analytical research processes and interpretations.

5. Must be able to speak, read, write and understand the English language at a level adequate to perform job functions.

6. Ability to apply safe practices and procedures for performing the essential functions of the job.

7. Ability to apply logical thinking to solve problems or accomplish tasks.

8. Ability to understand and follow oral and written directions promptly and accurately.

9. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with a variety of individuals.

10. Work well in a progressive, team-oriented environment.

11. Have a positive attitude and be a self-starter.

12. Local Calgarian or Albertan with experience is preferred

13. May offer relocation allowance to right candidate from Canada or USA

Working Environment/Physical Requirements:

• The duties of this position generally involves sedentary office work.

• Some travel may be required.

• Moderate physical activity is required.

• The position requires communication with Company employees, customers and other individuals.

Remuneration: In the $90k-$110K range + Benefits etc.
