Quality ( QA ) Supervisor

Our client is seeking an experienced and talented Quality Assurance / Quality Control ( QC ) leader within their food grade manufacturing facility in Northwestern PA to support the Department Manager in the leading of the department.

REPORTING TO: The QA Manager

POSITION SUMMARY: The Quality Assurance Supervisor is responsible for the day to day operations of the Quality Assurance Lab, and Sanitation Departments. These tasks include overseeing and ensuring proper procedures, testing, and cleaning schedules are adhered to. The QA Supervisor is responsible to lead the Internal Auditing functions of the Plant. Reviewing daily production documentation and forms for accuracy and completeness as it relates to the QA Department. This position will oversee the review, Root Cause investigation, Corrective Action and Preventive Action of all customer complaints.

SCOPE OF RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Provides direction and influence for the development and implementation of all quality and food safety systems

• Manages the internal quality audit function for the site and assures the effectiveness of the corrective and preventative action process within the framework of the site’s quality and food safety processes

• Ensures the documentation and implementation of SOP’s, SSOP’s, GMP’s, HACCP, FSMA, and SQF

• Consults with plant management on better operational, analytical, and documentation procedures, to improve overall efficiency and product yields by reduction of hold items and customer concerns

• Ensures through direct observation and documentation that plant production is maintaining and adhering to policies, programs and federal guidelines with respect to FDA CFR 21, and AAFCO

• Report food safety issues to supervision with the authority to initiate action

• Assures that all Finished products manufactured or packaged at the site are safe and conform to the intended product design

• Assures adherence to Food Safety Standards including but not limited to HACCP, SQF and FSMA

• Implements the Hold & Release policy at the site to assure only acceptable finished products reaches customers.

• Provides laboratory analytical support required to troubleshoot and resolve site issues

• Recommends line operation shut down due to product quality and food safety issues in the process or site environment

• Consults on process problems and requested corrective action and/or changes to standard operating procedure

• Validate cause, initiate corrective action, responsibility, resolution and conclusion.

• Document decision making process and how exceptions were handled

• Review CCP Documentation and address any discrepancies in a timely manner

• Review and report Hold Product cause, effect, and resolution, establish corrective action and document resolve

• Determine and execute what is to be done with products put on hold

• Develop monthly reports and distribute to management

• Communicate incidents to all necessary parties, including follow up action(s) taken and results reflective by change, if change is necessary

• Provide feedback to operators and manufacturing managers regarding non-conforming ingredients, products and packaging. Document all occurrences by Corrective Action and validate resolution

• Provides coaching and training for all plant employees in Quality Systems and Programs

• Provides training and feedback to operators on proper measurement, SQF food safety, FSMA and sanitation methods

• Educates and instruct plant personnel in required quality control testing, GMP’s, SOP’s SSOP’s, and confirm these procedures are being maintained

• Documents recommendations, improvements and infractions to test methodology and report to appropriate management in a timely manner

• Has direct accountability to lead the Sanitation lead, Sanitation Team, and QA Techs to ensure development of skills, completion of work, and the on-going maintenance of a learning environment. Aids in developing the staff in each of their areas

• Ensure plant adherence to Master Cleaning and Sanitation Schedule and SSOP’s are executed in a thorough and timely manner

• Assures that the same attention to the sanitation and hygiene of production lines is paid to the outlying and peripheral support areas of the plant

• Provides technical and day-to-day, hands-on crew management direction for plant sanitation staff. Drives Food Safety throughout the entire process (shutdown, sanitation, setup, and startup)

• Executes and provides technical direction for environmental and cleanliness monitoring activities (which may be executed by other staff in the QA department

• Supervises the execution of established programs and practices that ensure facility integrity, operability and cleanliness while establishing and driving a culture of peer to peer accountability for Safety (including personal safety and food-safety), Quality, and Customer Satisfaction

• Interprets Food Safety and Quality Policies to plant workers

• Works with Coordinator of Quality Compliance to coordinate composite sampling, environmental sampling, and other responsibilities as needed

• May perform other duties as assigned by Department Manager

SUMMARY OF QUALIFICATIONS:

• Bachelor’s degree in a relative field, preferably Food Science, Biology or other Quality or Industry related discipline.

• Relevant experience in Food / Pharma, as well as demonstrated Regulatory experience may be substituted for education requirements

• 3 years minimum experience in Leadership and Supervision in a food / medical grade quality systems or laboratory capacity.

• Ideal candidate will bring Certifications/Licenses in HACCP, SQF, PCQI

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

• Demonstrated experience with cleaning / sanitation, chemical control practices, manufacturing equipment, and an understanding of food (or other related industries as previously noted – where maintaining heightened cleanliness levels is essential)

• Understanding of Hygiene, Validation, Verification, and Pest Management techniques in an FDA / USDA regulated industry

• Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office software

• Familiarity with a manufacturing environment

• General ability to understand facility specific processes such as weighing, measuring, mixing, cleaning, sterilization, documentation, and process control automation

• Good analytical and problem-solving skills; good attention to detail and ability to prepare and give written and oral instructions

• Multi-project/multi-tasking capability

• Ability to establish strong relationships throughout the organization and an ability to work in a collaborative environment

• Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, to all levels within the company

• Ability to differentiate among competing demands and establish or shift priorities as needed
