Program Objective:

The Senior Family Advocate must be a parent or caregiver of a child with a serious emotional and / or behavioral challenge and have experience in navigating the mental health system as well as other child-serving and family serving systems. The Senior Family Advocate will be supporting the Program Director in achieving program goals as well as training and providing task supervision to Family and Youth Advocates in the areas of advocacy and delivering supportive and educational services to families with youth who have serious emotional or behavioral challenges. The Senior Family Advocate will assist in the coordination of service providers to families involved with multiple systems. Promotion of quality services, family empowerment, and provision of support to family members are central features of this position.

Department/ Program: Department of Children and Family / Family Resource Center of Northern Bronx

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

•In conjunction with the FRC Director, Senior Family Advocate will train new Family Advocates on their role as advocates, in navigating systems, and how access resources.

•Collaborate with various child-serving systems in order to maintain resources, referrals, and community commitment for families served through the Family Resource Center.

•Work in collaboration with other staff members of the Family Resource Center to provide supportive services that meet the needs of enrolled children, youth and families.

•Senior Family Advocate will facilitate / co-facilitate parenting education, support groups, and workshops.

•Advocate with families within the community to assure that their needs are being met.

•Provide outreach and presentations to schools, early intervention programs, clinics and other community-based providers as needed.

•Identifying and referring families to the various social and recreational activities organized through the Family Resource Center.

•Work with socially, economically, culturally and ethnically diverse groups in a mutually respectful manner using a strength-based approach.

•Complete all paperwork in a timely manner.

•Senior Family Advocate will conduct home, office, and visits to meet the family where they are.

•Other duties as assigned.

Requirement:

•A minimum of H.S diploma or G.E.D.

•Must be a parent or caregiver of a child with a serious emotional and / or behavioral challenge and have experience in navigating the mental health system as well as other child-serving and family serving systems.

•Will be required to complete PEP training and Family Peer Advocate Credentialing.

•Computer literacy and familiarity with Microsoft Office and Ecompas a plus.

•Bilingual and bi-cultural candidates are encouraged to apply.

•The Senior Family Advocate will have at least (3) three years’ experience as a Parent / Family Advocate.
