Job Title: Kitchen Assistant

Department: PCLC

Reports To: Nutrition Coordinator

Pay: $12/hr

Type: Full time nonexempt

POSITION SUMMARY

This position will be responsible for assisting in all aspects of food service at Peninsula Children’s Learning Center, including appropriate preparation and serving of planned meals and maintaining a clean food preparation environment.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Assist in the completion of accurate and detailed recipes for the meals on the menu.

Assist in preparing breakfasts, lunches and snacks and ensure that the food is maintained and transported at appropriate temperatures.

Transport breakfasts and lunches to all classrooms and ensure the appropriate kinds and quantities of food are transported to sites as needed.

Ability to transport meals to off sites.

Assist in purchasing food and food services supplies and purchase food and supplies from area grocery stores as needed.

Assist in maintaining a food inventory at all sites

Assist in cleaning and sanitizing all equipment used in the meal service (including dishes, pots and utensils, kitchen counters) on a daily basis and monthly on major equipment such as (refrigerator, stoves, microwave).

Assist in maintaining an inventory of equipment at all sites.

Assist in cleaning the cupboards and other storage areas.

Attend CACFP and other food, sanitation and nutrition trainings as needed and required.

Attend all required staff meetings and trainings and Neighborhood House all-staff meetings and trainings.

Other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the supervisor.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE

High School Diploma or GED and one (1) year experience cooking for large groups; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Experience with preschool aged children. Experience or ability to learn CACFP guidelines and record keeping.

Knowledge of or ability to learn CACFP food components, serving sizes and basic nutrition. Basic organization and planning skills and excellent food preparation and sanitation skills required.

Knowledge of Microsoft Office: Word, Excel, and troubleshooting skills preferred.

QUALIFICATIONS

Demonstrated proficiency in handling confidential nature; ability to assume a high degree of responsibility; ability to work effectively with a wide variety of individuals and groups; and ability to work independently. Ability to appropriately assess and handle crises, and solve problems as needed.

Demonstrated ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse communities and cultures and communicate effectively with those whose English language skills are limited. Excellent oral and written communication and ability to communicate professionally with clients, families, service providers, community members and co-workers. Ability to work as a team player.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

Ability to obtain Food Handler’s Card within one (1) week of hire; reimbursed by Neighborhood House.

Must successfully complete enrollment in Oregon Child Care Registry; reimbursed by Neighborhood House.

Must complete post-offer physical exam and TB test.

Require own vehicle transportation, a valid driver's license, and have/maintain car insurance acceptable to Neighborhood House's insurance provider.
