Mission

The Database Integration Director position is responsible for EIS research database pipeline, which is used to build new research database products and maintain our existing product portfolio. We run a large ETL operation, ingesting a variety of structured and unstructured data for eBooks, journals, newspapers, databases, (you name it), provided to us by our content provider partners. This content is used to create research databases used by a wide range of customers including academic libraries, schools, corporations, public libraries and healthcare facilities.

The team is looking for a Director who will embrace EIS’ strategy and customer needs, and work to develop our team, processes, and tools to achieve company goals and exceed customer expectations. The Director will need to balance maintaining and improving our products with our existing systems, while at the same time collaborating with our Technology team to migrate our pipeline into a new AWS- based architecture.

Primary Responsibilities Include

- Oversee the research database product pipeline. Support a team of roughly 25 team members, including publisher content management, database product content designers, and data integration engineers. Responsibilities include data acquisition, 3rd party partner relationships, data mapping/transformation, data governance, and product delivery to our customers.

- Protect EIS products and enhance customer experience by proactively measuring and managing our research database product ETL operation. Resolve difficult customer, technical, and process issues in a fast and professional manner. Proactively work with Product Managers to communicate and resolve issues impacting product health.

- Collaborate with Product Management, Technology and other stakeholders to provide thought leadership and execution as we migrate our tools to new AWS-based ETL processes and tools.

- Keep abreast of market and technology developments and provide thought leadership to continually identify process and architectural improvements. Advocate for and drive these strategies.

- Provide coaching and leadership to the team, promoting desired behaviors, resulting in improved results for EIS customers. Support employee development and career advancement.

- Promote and empower Lean thinking, principles, and problem solving via training, rollout, and coaching.

Required Qualifications

• BA or MA degree in data science, information science, library science, computer science or a related discipline.

• 6+ years' experience in a data integration role

• 3+ years’ hands-on experience using data integration tools for ingesting, processing (cleaning, enriching, etc.), and loading high-volume data

• 3+ years’ of leadership/team management experience

• Practical knowledge of data integration principles, formats, and best practices/standards, and industry trends

• Familiarity working with multiple standard document formats including XML, HTML, and PDF

• Familiarity operating within a Unix/Linux and/or Windows environment, operating or administering software (scheduling and monitoring applications), scripting languages (e.g. Python), T-SQL, and relational databases

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with AWS-based data integration tools

• Knowledge and experience in the information services industry.

• Knowledge of academic publishing and/or library markets

Subject Knowledge: Knowledge of best practices in cloud-based ETL/data integration and MDM, along with hands on experience in a velocity-driven culture; Experience with SnapLogic, Informatica or similar solutions strongly preferred
