Mechanical Design Engineer - Cradle to Grave Project Engineering

TxMQ is currently assisting their client in the search for a qualified Mechanical Design Engineer for their industrial facility in Western New York. The Mechanical Design Engineer will design and engineer products and equipment, as well as coordinate programs and large projects utilizing the prepared proposal, budget and customer specifications to provide CAD drawings for fabrication while focusing on cost reductions and cycle time.

REPORTING TO: Chief of Engineering


• Review and utilize engineering file prepared by sales and proposal, as well as the customer’s specifications in order to use as a design tool.

• Design machines utilizing AutoCAD and/or Solid works while following prototype and drawing standards

• Requisition all necessary purchased & stock material for machines through purchasing within proposed budget constraints and work with purchasing to expedite materials as needed.

• Support R&D initiatives.

• Prepare customer approval drawings and electrical and maintenance manual line up forms.

• Assist manufacturing personnel as needed to ensure smooth build of machinery and work to help ensure project is within or below material and labor budgets

• Perform an “In House” engineering run off, debug and resolve any problems before customer run-off and notify sales of upcoming customer machine runoffs.

• Follow up on items that may need to be addressed before machine ships.

• Prepare and distribute all project related documentation and correspondence.

• Interact and communicate with customers as project dictates and support job in the field during the start-up and through the warranty period.

• Manage the Reliability and Maintainability issues for assigned jobs to meet Quality requirements.

• No supervisory responsibilities, though may assist in the training of new engineering employees.

• Other Functions as directed.


• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or Technology,

• 3-5 years’ experience in a design engineering role in a related industry – custom fabrication, sheet metal fabrication, equipment or systems design, etc.

• Must have basic knowledge of computers, engineering concepts, and project management

• Advanced level experience with AutoCAD and/or Solidworks.

• Microsoft products knowledge

• Preference will be given to candidates with experience in fluid pneumatics / hydraulics, pumps, filters, plumbing, sheet metal, mechanical transfer systems; as well as Cradle to Grave project engineering or project management.


• Ability to communicate verbally and/or in writing with other employees, other departments, supervision, customers and management as to work in progress, problems and/or completion. Must be able to present information to groups of employees, customers, vendors etc.

• Must be able to perform advanced level mathematics (algebra, trigonometry, strength of materials, etc.) and use industry related calculations and formulas.

• Must be capable of identifying work process problems and possible solutions.

• The candidate will maintain local, regional and/or national membership in appropriate professional organizations / associations.

• Must be able to periodically travel to customer’s jobsite for start ups, machine commissioning and warranty work as dictated by project. All projects do not require travel, most stays are from 1 to 2 days, some could be more.

• Work in controlled environment of office, along with traditional shop atmosphere. Can be exposed to loud noises and various fumes or smells based on job. Work around high voltage machinery.

• Physical demands will comprise of sitting at workstation for prolonged periods of time. Must be able adjust visual focus. May be required to reach, stoop and/or bend on an as needed basis. Must be able to climb stairs as necessary.
