Job Summary:

Demonstrates and serves as an expert in the role of practitioner, consultant, and educator by diagnosing, conducting, and prescribing medications for patients having valvular disease. Provides cardiovascular services, physical and psychosocial examination, developing appropriate treatment plan and providing effective management of patient care with proper evaluation. Functions as educator and consultant to staff, families, groups, legislators, communities, and corporations, as well as participate in developing policies and healthcare reforms, improving service quality, and practice evaluation. Assures competent and ethical care of patients and families. Shares with the supervising physician the responsibilities of providing and maintaining a quality, customer-focused, nursing and medically appropriate approach to patient care. Community involvement and collaboration is encouraged. Completes established competencies for the position within designated introductory period. Other related duties as assigned.


• Master’s Degree in Nursing from an accredited university. Graduate of an accredited Nurse Practitioner program

• Doctorate Degree in Nursing from accredited university is preferred.


• 2 years’ experience working with persons who have valvular disease or a combination of licensure, education and experience demonstrating ability to effectively perform essential job functions. Knowledge of the Texas Nurse Practice Act, the Rules and Regulations of the Texas Board of Nursing, Code of Ethics for Nurses and the Scope and Standards of Practice for Nursing Practice and Professional Performance and for Advanced Practice Nursing.

• 2 or more years Professional Nursing Experience, in the Cath Lab setting is preferred.


• Possession of current Texas State License for Registered Nurse.

• Current Registered Nurse with Advanced Practice status and prescriptive authority.

• Certification as an Advanced Practice Nurse Prescriber (APNP) by the Texas State Board of Nursing

• Prescriber Number assigned by the Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA)

• Prescriber Number assigned by the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS)

• BLS-Obtained through approved American Heart Association Training Center or the Military Training Network, ACLS.

• Certification: Adult Health, Acute Care Nurse Practitioner, Family Nurse Practioner, Adult Nurse Practitioner is preferred.
