POSITION TITLE: Co-Lead Clinician

STATUS: Full Time, Exempt

REPORTS TO: Medical Director and VP of Patient Services and Research

POSITION SUMMARY:

A nurse clinician works with another Lead Clinician, who assists in creating and maintaining quality medical standards and systems for the medical services, surgical and health centers and who provides training, orientation, and monitoring of new and current PPSLRSWMO nurse clinicians. Will require travel to eight health centers. May require evening and Saturdays. Includes ability to move about the clinic, time sitting and standing, ability to perform the functions of a medical clinician, and the ability to use a computer.

PRIMARY DUTIES PERFORMED:

• See Nurse Practitioner Job Description.

• Clinician will continue to see patients and keep skills updated.

• Assist in interviewing and hiring new nurse clinicians.

• Train new practitioners on PPSLRSWMO medical standards, guidelines, and protocols.

• Follow new NPs through their trial period, ensuring high quality and performance.

• Regular monthly to every six weeks consultations with full and part time NPs.

• Regular auditing of a representative group of each sites’ medical records. Obtain charts from all types of visits and providers.

• Direct observation of clinical skills of all full, part time and PRN clinicians. This will be done throughout the year and will include different types of visits and microscopic skills.

• With Medical Director, assist in the annual performance appraisal of clinicians’ medical skills.

• Trainer for both clinicians and ancillary staff on new methods, treatment regimens, et.al.

• Coordinate and provide, directly or by delegation, the preceptoring and mentoring of student nurse practitioners.

• Active member of patient services department management team.

• Will incorporate new PPFA guidelines into PPSLRSWMO and RHS of PPSLRSWMO protocol and procedures.

• Analyze new medical guidelines and recommendations, i.e. CDC and STD/HIV, American Cancer Screening, etc., and make recommendations to Medical Director for changes in PPSLRSWMO protocols and procedures.

• Lead discussions with NPs and medical staff on updated medical standards, technologies, and changes and potential changes in medical practice and standards

• Assist with keeping medical manual and protocols up to date and revised according to decisions made by medical director and clinicians.

• Adhere to affiliate policies on professionalism, wait time in-clinic and on the phone, and the system for addressing client complaints.

• Participate in health center/affiliate efforts to achieve established productivity and revenue cycle goals.

RISK MANAGEMENT AND QUALITY ASSURANCE

• Documents in the medical record, in English, all encounters with patients, consistent with affiliate Quality Assurance and Risk Management standards.

• Follows protocol for approved services and operates within the confines of policy, protocol, medical guidelines, and collaborative practice agreements.

• Monitors other clinicians for performance within the confines of the above.

• Consults with the medical director and Vice President of Patient Services and Research, Assists in monitoring occurrences and providing training and system intervention as needed.

• Compliant with all infection control policies and procedures; safeguards patients and self.

• Performs lab tests correctly and records accurately all lab results in designated lab books, medical records, etc.

• Protects confidentiality of PPSLRSWMO clients, staff, volunteers, donors, Board, and all other areas of operations.

• Protects PPSLRSWMO and its assets from liability.

• Follows HIPAA privacy and security guidelines.

OTHER DUTIES AS DELEGATED:

• Contributes to the department’s growth through marketing, scheduling, budgetary ideas for service provision.

• Presents at community events, when necessary, on reproductive health care.

• May be used for media interviews on medical and service care.

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Nurse Clinician with an MSN Degree. I understand that it is my professional obligation to keep all licensure and certification up to date and to provide a copy of such to the affiliate. I understand that current licensure (and certification, if applicable) is a condition of my employment.

• NCC certified (if applicable).

• State licensed in both Missouri and Illinois

• Recognized by the state of Illinois and Missouri as an Advance Practice Nurse able to function under a collaborative practice agreement.

• Ability to make sound, ethical, independent decisions.

• Ability to communicate effectively in English both verbally and written.

• Commitment to PP goals and mission.

• Ability to work effectively with diverse staff levels and diverse clients.

• Strong organizational and analytical skills.

• Detail oriented.

• Bilingual skills a plus, particularly Spanish, Serbian-Croatian or Vietnamese.
