Job Duties:

Decontaminate the full range of reusable medical supplies and equipment used in the MTF. Determine and use the appropriate methods for removing gross contaminations. Disassemble and reassemble equipment where the internal parts may have become contaminated.

Prepare trays and sets used in the MTF. Remove trays of instruments from decontamination after completing the decontamination processes, inspect items to be sure that gross contamination has been removed, and that instruments function properly. Reassemble trays/sets IAW count sheets. Ensure compliance with departmental policies for preparing instrument sets/trays.

Select appropriate methods of sterilization. Operate sterilization equipment. Steam Autoclaves and Sterrad, IAW manufacturer’s recommendation. Perform biological testing when appropriate. Ensure compliance with departmental policies for documentation of sterilization loads.

Maintain records on the use, issuance, stock levels, and maintenance of equipment/supplies IAW departmental policies.

Storage and issuing duties consist of removing items from sterilizers, inspecting packages for indications of proper sterilization, proper labeling of items, and storing items as to preserve the sterility. Fill request for items based on the daily surgical schedule and add-on cases. Suggest possible substitutes when requested items are no available.

Hazardous Communications training is required (4 hour course) as part of the initial orientation.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education: Completion of the following:

Possess a high school diploma or equivalent too

Central Material Service Technicians (Sterile Processors, CMS) must provide proof of completion or certification from an accredited, formal training program in central material services operations.

Experience: Candidates must have the following experience:



National Background

Must be US Citizen

Must have reliable transportation to and from work site

License/Certification and Training:

Current Basic Life Support (BLS/CPR) from the American Heart Association


Sunday - Saturday

80 hours in a two week period

Federal holidays will be required
