This is a direct-client opening for a BI/Analytics Team Lead located in Alexandria, VA This is a full-time position with a salary in the 80-110K range, depending on experience. No Visa Holders and local candidates to the area are preferred.

Our client is strengthening their existing SAM Analytics Team that is leading the organization’s effort to connect users with its’ data, technology, tools, and processes. The Analytics Team will support members and users in using advanced analytics tools and developing actionable insights to drive business performance.

Duties:

Provides value added support by partnering with users to understand their business requirements; analyzes users’ needs and uses BI tools to present results in meaningful and intuitive formats; provides group and one-on-one support and training on Diver reports, Diveport reports, dashboards, etc. via telephone, e-mail, gotomeeting sessions, webinars, etc.

Oversees the Help Desk ticketing function; prioritizes, escalates and resolves user issues; follows up with staff on the status of Help Desk tickets; ensures that SAM subscribers are kept apprised of the status of tickets; reviews, and in consultation with the SVP, Trade Relations/COO, implements changes or updates to the ticketing system; provides updates to users on new releases.

Follows up with MIS Services and Operations to analyze and understand data problems; ensures that programmers are promptly informed of data issues and questions that emerge during user help desk or training sessions; provides accurate, timely answers to questions from programmers regarding data problems; supports the analytics needs of other SAM users as time permits.

Uses understanding of shell scripting and database structures to resolve routine data file issues; identifies and resolves data problems by independently writing basic UNIX shell scripts, executing scripts to generate basic reports, etc.; documents test results on an ongoing basis; alerts Operations Team to potential data discrepancies discovered by the Help Desk in a timely fashion.

Estimates level of effort required to create Diver and Diveport reports to meet SAM user reporting needs and communicates information to users; completes projects by scheduled deadlines.

Evaluates Help Desk needs on an ongoing basis; trains Help Desk staff; ensures that data services and support meet member, user and subscriber expectations; documents SAM Help Desk and ticketing procedures; assists with SAM training; conducts SAM training on various modules as requested.

Performs special projects as requested; attends training seminars.

Qualifications:

Bachelor’s Degree in computer science or related technical discipline and a minimum of ten (10) years of relevant experience are required. Equivalent experience may be substituted for the degree requirement. A minimum of five (5) years of advanced experience using BI tools in an analytics environment is required. Supervisory experience is strongly preferred. Training experience is a plus.

Experience must include a minimum of two (2) years of experience independently writing basic UNIX shell scripts and using SQL or other directly relevant programming tools and/or languages to solve data problems. Experience handling flat files in a UNIX environment is strongly preferred. Java or Python programming experience and Informix or Oracle database experience are helpful.

Strong conceptual knowledge of data warehousing, BI systems and processes, and ETL (extract, transform, load) is essential.

Expert skill level using BI tools such as Microstrategy, Diver, Diveport, Tableau, etc. to respond to user questions and solve user problems is required. Must be able to efficiently create complex reports, markers, dashboards, etc. for users. Must be able to use features such as modeling, drilling, custom formatting, report scheduling, event-based triggers, automation of refreshes and delivery, etc. to respond to users reporting needs. Certification in relevant analytics technologies or tools is desirable.

Experience using Advanced Excel functions (pivot tables, lookups, macros, etc.) is required. Must be proficient with Microsoft Outlook, Word, etc.
