Our customer located in Auburn Hills, MI is seeking a Dimensional Engineer.

The salary range for this position is dependent upon level of experience.

Will be required to drive a company car. Valid driver’s license is required, as well as a clean driving record.

Will be required to travel domestically and internationally (up to 20%).

Candidates must be able to start preferably in 2 weeks, but a maximum of 3 weeks from acceptance date.


Develops and maintains list of critical product and process characteristics for Body Shop and Stamping Plants. Recommends best gauging methods. Performs data analysis to identify special and common cause problems. Helps in development and roll-out of training material. Support plants in root causing dimensional issues. Work with cross-functional team to recommend and evaluate corrective action. Documents case studies.

Responsibilities will include Interior and Exterior dimensional validation, creating Kaizens and eCims from QAF build issues and part validation, Root Cause Analysis, ensuring part availability for the QAF builds, launch support, and supplier interface.

Specific Duties

Responsible to develop optimal part datum locating schemes using specialized software that combines 3D tolerance stack software, Finite Element Analysis (FEA), and optimization techniques. This position will be working closely with design engineering, stamping feasibility and dimensional engineering cross functional teams.

In the design phase, the Analyst proposes datum schemes that will optimize the repeatability of part locating in the gage or tool. In the launch phase, the analyst applies rigorous analytical techniques to troubleshoot root cause of repeatability problems including part quality. In addition, the Dimensional Analyst will use the specialized software to predict the influence of locating schemes, orientation, assembly sequence, datum coordination, gravity and joining techniques on complex flexible assemblies as well as use rigorous modeling techniques to develop insights to improve assembly behavior by design and in the plant.

The ideal candidate drives the insights into part design and launch troubleshooting and will research and develop improvements to the analysis process and modeling tools. This position works with outside software suppliers and academic research teams to advance the theoretical basis and the practical applications of the analysis techniques. The Analyst will expand the practical applications in the plant setting.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or related field with ANY of the following experience or skills:

o Understanding of fundamental dimensional control principles (datum coordination, tolerance stacks, geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T), slip planes, etc.).

o Familiar with 3D tolerance analysis, specifically 3DCS or Variation Simulation Analysis (VSA).

o Familiarity with FEA (i.e. Abaqus, ANSA).

o Understanding of basic modeling techniques (incremental development, validation, debugging, interpretation, and presentation of results).

o Dimensional problem solving experience in a plant setting.

Preferred Qualifications

• Advanced Degree in Systems Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or Manufacturing Engineering.

• 2+ years of experience in dimensional engineering in a plant setting.

• 2+ years of experience in 3DCS modeling.

• Academic or hands-on experience with Abaqus or ANSA.

• Academic or hands-on experience in computer modeling.
