A nonprofit in the SFValley seeks an Sr. Financial Reporting Accountant. This a highly visible position as it provides direct support to the CFO. Under the direction of the CFO, the Sr. Financial Reporting Accountant will prepare financial reports for distribution to internal and external customers, including the CFO and management, staff, funders, grantors, and government agencies. The SFRA will develop, maintain and manage the financial dashboard and KPIs to support strategic financial goals. • Prepare and ensure accuracy and completeness of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial report package in accordance with accounting policy and GAAP as required for CFO to present to the Operations Strategic Team (OST), Leadership Team, Finance Committee and Board of Directors.

• Perform reconciliations for the financial reporting package; apply technical knowledge and judgement to ensure accuracy of accounts and timely resolution of reconciling items as required. Research, inquire and record journal entries where necessary to finalize package. Analyze data to determine root cause(s) of variances and performance drivers, communicate and present issues and solutions/ recommendations in a clear and concise manner across all levels of staff.

• Develop and maintain financial dashboard and key financial performance indicators to present to OST, Leadership Team, Finance Committee and Board of Directors. Demonstrate understanding of internal controls and segregation of duties to drive implementation of best practices, which are reported through the financial dashboard and KPIs. Supports the development of long-term strategic and yearly operating plans and monthly forecast.

• Manage and establish month-end close effort with Grants Manager, Accounting Manager, Sr. FP&A Analyst and other staff to ensure closing deadlines are met. Keep CFO timely informed of emerging issues.

• Perform financial analysis, account reconciliations, journal entries and data compilation as assigned.

• Prepare audit schedules and complete work assigned related to annual financial audit. Regularly self-check work to proactively ensure reports are completed with minimal errors to limit any future audit findings


• Education: Bachelor's Degree with major in Accounting or related field. CPA Preferred.

• Experience: A minimum of 5 years work experience in accounting or finance. Two of the five years must be in preparation of financial statements. Working knowledge of GAAP required. Knowledge of government funding grant reporting requirements, budgeting, OMB Circulars, and nonprofit experience a plus. Previous audit experience a plus.

• Technology Sills: Strong computer skills, including intermediate knowledge of Excel and Word desired; working knowledge of all other Microsoft Office applications (Outlook, etc.) a plus.

• Communication/Customer Service Skills: Strong and effective written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to interface with others in an effective, open and tactful manner. Ability to establish and maintain effective, cooperative, and diplomatic working relationships with colleagues, supervisor, external contacts with funding sources, and the public.

• General Skills: Possess analytical and problem-solving skills. Attention to details essential. Ability to work under pressure on multiple projects with competing deadlines and to prioritize work effectively and apply a sense of urgency to projects. Must be highly motivated, able to exercise discretion and good judgment, work independently, take initiative, participate as an effective team member and follow tasks through to completion.
