General Description:

Flight and Operational Medicine Clinic Licensed Practical Nurse or Licensed Vocational Nurse (FOMC LPN/LVN) assist in the routine patient care and treatment of beneficiaries, to include flying and special operational duty personnel, when required. Organize the medical environment, perform and direct support activities for outpatient care situations, including contingency operations and disasters.

Specific Tasks:

• You shall serve as a Practical/Vocational Nurse performing patient care and nursing administrative duties for outpatients in accordance with established policies, procedures, protocols, and guidelines.

• You shall monitor and record age appropriate physiological measurements.

• You shall orient new patients to the clinic environment.

• You shall assist with patient check-ins, admissions, discharges, and transfers as directed.

• You shall provide individualized patient teaching on appropriate topics to include preventative healthcare and health maintenance.

• You shall prepare and position patients for diagnostic testing, examinations, treatments, and clinical procedures.

• You shall perform appropriate portions of medical examinations, treatment, diagnostic, and clinical procedures.

• You shall record treatment, procedure rendered, and observed effects.

• You shall identify and record patient problems and appropriately notifies provider/nursing Team of observations.

• You shall prepare and administer medications in accordance with scope of practice and training.

• You shall recognize and respond to emergencies and perform basic life support measures.

• You shall perform appropriate portions of physical examinations including age appropriate physical measurements.

• You shall adhere to infection control procedures including use of personal protective equipment, disposal of waste, and aseptic technique.

• You shall perform central sterile supply duties.

• You shall ensure all equipment is properly assembled, operates, cleaned and stored at the end of each work shift. You shall ensure preventive maintenance and routine cleaning are performed as directed.

• You shall perform medical records reviews and applies appropriate protocols and guidelines to determine medical needs.

• You shall maintain patient medical records in electronic format as well as hard copy as required.

• You shall prepare and submit administrative reports.

• You shall participate in training and continuing education programs for new procedures, techniques, and equipment.

• You shall ensure a safe work environment and employee safe work habits.

• You shall establish and maintain appropriate, professional, interpersonal relationships with co-workers, families, peers, and other team members.

• You shall participate in in-service training and continuing education programs for new procedures, techniques, and equipment.


• You must have successfully completed all education and training requirements leading to and graduated from an accredited national, state or military equivalent school for Practical Nursing or Vocational Nursing from either United States or Japan.

• You must have and maintain certification in basic life support skills.

• You must have and maintain, a current, active, valid, unrestricted license (with no limitations, stipulations or pending adverse actions) to practice as a Licensed Practical Nurse or Licensed Vocational Nurse (LPN/LVN) from a US or Japanese jurisdiction. License must be recognized and accepted by the State of practice in accordance with governing regulations. License cannot be under investigation nor have any adverse action pending from a Nursing State Board or national licensing/certification agency.

• You must have understanding of and ability to correctly utilize and/or apply; medical terminology, anatomy and physiology, psychology, pharmacology, medical ethics and legal concepts, clinical procedures, patient care; emergency medical treatment to include cardiopulmonary resuscitation, aseptic technique, specimen collection, diagnostic testing, prepare and administer oral and parenteral (excluding IV) medications, vaccination procedures, mechanisms of anaphylaxis and shock and their treatment; prescription drugs and their administration; operating and maintaining therapeutic equipment, risk management, medical contingency operations, computer operations in the use of basic word processing, data entry and automated medical records.

• You must have experience performing care and treatment of patients; operating and

maintaining therapeutic equipment; properly administering oral and parenteral medications; conducting paraprofessional portions of physical examinations; or assisting in medical treatment of patients in accordance with established procedures and protocols, within the LPN/LVN scope of practice. You shall have practiced as an LPN/LVN performing hands-on patient care in the outpatient clinical setting for at least 12 months within the past 24 months.

• You shall read, understand, speak, and write English fluently to be able to communicate clearly with patients. You shall have typing skills and be computer literate with Microsoft Windows/Office.
