Applications Engineer

Our client, an expanding facility on the East coast, is searching for an Applications Engineer to join their growing team that offers incredible growth and advancement potential.

REPORTING TO: Engineering Manager


• To support the organization by developing and utilizing a multi-faceted sales approach: Analyzing markets to guide sales & marketing functions, developing strategies for the application of new/innovative technologies, and focusing on building and maintaining customer relationships through direct sales.


• Assist with analyzing market data in order to identify opportunities & work with sales & engineering to further develop those opportunities.

• Develop & maintain a thorough understanding of core competencies & applicable technologies in order to sell custom engineered equipment,

• Oversee the cost estimation, design, specification, fabrication and installation of standard and custom engineered equipment.

• Generate necessary engineered drawings and manuals for engineered equipment.

• Prepares and issues project specifications, evaluate bids and negotiates final terms and conditions.

• Coordinates (and conducts as needed) equipment functional testing to ensure system operations and functionality.

• Provides assistance for field start of application equipment.

• Reports project performance in terms of costs and delivery.

• Oversee the ordering of system components, tracking of orders, and expediting orders associated with equipment projects.

• Ensures assigned projects are completed on schedule and within budget.

• Develops overall project schedules, estimates and quotes based on input from applications engineering, contractors and vendors.

• Work closely with Applications, R&D, Engineering, and Manufacturing to effectively communicate & coordinate customer requirements & business objectives/sales targets.

• Maintain a focus upon achieving sales goals in new business development within applicable markets.

• Assess market competition and communicate relevant information as needed.

• Demonstrate a commitment to teamwork & collaboration

• Position requires 20% travel, some overnights


• BS degree in Mechanical or Chemical Engineering

• A minimum of 3 years professional experience in Project Management or Engineering, Sales Engineering - must include positions with progressively greater levels of customer interaction

• Candidate must be outgoing & possess a strong propensity for technical sales.

• Experience designing and/or assisting in the design of industrial equipment, skid-mounted process equipment, and/or high pressure gas systems preferred.

• Experience with process chemicals (e.g. hydrogen chloride, sulfur dioxide, ammonia) a plus.

• Well-versed in instrumentation and controls, have a firm understanding of fluid dynamics for compressible fluids.

• Other qualifications, which are desirable, include a proficiency in working with Auto CAD, ChemCAD simulation software, PLC/HMl programming experience.

• Capable of travelling up to approximately 20% (including overnight as required) and working weekends and/or holiday as needed to meet project schedules, equipment commissioning and follow-up customer support.

• Familiar with applicable standard design and safety codes for equipment produced for metals and chemical industrial market sectors, such as CGA, ASME and NFPA and codes and standards.

• Strong written and oral communication skills.
