Electrical Controls Engineer

TxMQ is currently assisting their client in the search for a qualified Electrical Controls Engineer for their manufacturing facility in Jamestown, NY.

REPORTING TO: Chief Engineer

SUMMARY: Design electrical control systems for custom & standard products

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

• Review Engineering job file and design products to meet applicable specs.

• Interact and communicate with customers and other engineering staff members as project dictates.

• CAD drawing package generation including customer approval, wiring schematics & panel layout.

• Generate bill of material, estimate cost of purchased items, and requisition all necessary material and components.

• Design PLC and HMI logic using products from many different manufacturers.

• Research and use new software and hardware packages.

• Support all other departments on an as need basis regarding electrical components of the machine.

• Assist engineers, electricians and customer with debugging and machine runoffs.

• Support Project in the field, as needed, during start-up and through warranty period.

• Assist in the training of new engineering employees.

• Maintain local, regional and/or national membership in appropriate professional organizations/associations.

• Other Functions as directed.

REQUIREMENTS:

• Bachelors Degree in Electrical Engineering or related Engineering discipline

• Minimum 3-5 years experience in Electrical, Controls Engineering, or some combination of education and relevant technical experience such as designing electrical control systems for custom & standard products.

• Must have product component level knowledge and AutoCAD / AutoCAD Electric experience.

• Hands on PLC experience

• Solid working knowledge of Standard Electrical Codes with regard to understanding and implementation

• Ability to handle multiple projects at one time and identify work process problems and possible solutions.

• Communicate verbally and/or in writing with other employees, other departments, supervision, customers and management as to work in progress, problems and/or completion. Must be able to present information to groups of employees, customers, vendors etc.

• Must be able to perform advanced level mathematics (algebra, trigonometry, strength of materials, etc.) and use industry related calculations and formulas.

• Experience with Lean / Six Sigma, Project Management, and experience in the custom capital equipment or systems industry highly desired.

• Experience with CE Requirements a plus.

PHYSICAL AND WORK ENVIRONMENT:

• Sit at workstation for prolonged periods of time. Must be able adjust visual focus. May be required to reach, stoop and/or bend on an as needed basis. Must be able to climb stairs as necessary.

• Work in controlled environment of office, along with traditional shop atmosphere. Can be exposed to loud noises and various fumes or smells based on job. Work around high voltage machinery.

• Must be able to periodically travel to customer’s jobsite for start ups, machine commissioning and warranty work as dictated by project. All projects do not require travel, most stays are from 1 to 2 days, rarely longer.
