Meticulous Cath Lab Nurse applying knowledge of working in a Cath laboratory. Adept at assessing patient care needs and ensuring that all products meet quality and safety standards. Specialize in cardiac catheterization and all related procedures.

Roles include assisting doctors in the preparation of patients for and in the performance of Interventional Procedures, including Cardiac Catheterization, Angioplasty, Valvulopasty, and Implantation of Pacemakers and Implantable Cardioverter-defibrillators.

Responsibilities and Duties

Organizing Patients: Prepare patients for their procedure by taking measurements of blood pressure, body temperature, and oxygen saturation levels. Answer questions a patient may have and attempt to ease any fears or concerns regarding the procedure. Help in filling consent forms for each procedure.

Administering Intravenous Therapy: Administer intravenous line before a procedure takes place and the purpose of the line is to administer medication or sedation, depending on the procedure.

Monitoring Vital Signs: During a procedure monitor the patient’s vital signs and report significant changes if any to the operating doctor. Vital signs include heart rate, blood pressure, and oxygen saturation level. Electrocardiogram wave-forms are also to be carefully monitored, because changes in the waveform my indicate problems for which action must be taken to ensure patient safety.

Procedural Duties: During procedures assist doctors which involve operating treatment equipment or interacting with the patient to explain what is happening or to help him or her remain calm so the doctor can carry out the necessary duties.

Post-Procedure Care: After a procedure has taken place, has to ensure that the patient makes a successful recovery. A close eye is kept on patients for indications of side effects such as excessive bleeding, vomiting, or infection. If there are any post-procedure problems action must be taken by the nurse, under the direction of the doctor.

Required Experience, Skills and Qualifications

- Possess Diploma / Degree in Nursing and valid or renewed Karnataka Nursing Council Registration.

- Minimum Cath lab Nurse experience of 2 years.

- Should have specialized training in Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), reading of EKGs, and strong cardiac medication knowledge.

- Impressive understanding of Cath lab procedures sedation and IV administration.

- Proficient in the use of basic computer programs including MS Word applications.

- Profound knowledge of Nurse Practice Act and related industry guidelines.

- Ability to work well under stress including in emergency situations.

- Solid ability to work well independently and in group settings.

- Strong communications and organizational abilities.
