Core Duties:

Coordinates and performs ocular screenings to assist with units' Soldier Readiness Programs by identifying and ordering the necessary military spectacles and inserts for Soldiers. Assists in Soldier Readiness Processing screenings for deployment and redeployment to include measuring visual acuities; verifying spectacle prescriptions; ordering military issue eyewear; referring for comprehensive eye exams. Additionally, assists in the Vision Readiness Classification System (VRCS) program by performing measuring visual acuities, verifying spectacle prescriptions, ordering military issue eyewear, referring for comprehensive eye exams, and updating information in the MEDPROS database. Updates the vision readiness status in the MEDPROS system.

Must have knowledge of current guidelines regarding the Office of the Surgeon General’s Military Combat Eye Protection (MCEP) program and the ability to assist unit leaders in promoting the program and ordering MCEP through appropriate supply channels.

Employs digital and diagnostic equipment to conduct specialized testing.

Assists patients in their selection of spectacle frames, fitting and ordering military lenses and inserts, evaluating, adjusting and/or repairing eye spectacles. Performs necessary facial measurements to complete the proper fitting of eyewear. This includes accurate measurements of bridge, eye, and temple size as well as the selection of an appropriate size and style, and color of frame followed by accurate determination of inter-pupillary distance and bifocal segment heights. Assists patients in determining type of frame and lenses required for their occupation.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education: Completion of the following:

Graduate with a High School Diploma or GED equivalent

Completion of an Ophthalmology Technician or an Optometry Technician Program.

Experience: Candidates must have the following experience:

Minimum of one (1) year of experience as an Ophthalmic/Optometry Technician after graduation

Security:

National Background Investigation

Authorized to work in US

Must have reliable transportation to and from work site

License/Certification and Training:

Certification through the Council for Accreditation of Hearing Conservationists (CAOHC)

Current Basic Life Support (BLS/CPR) from the American Heart Association

Schedule:

Monday to Friday

6:00 AM to 11:00 PM
