Job description:

This individual will be responsible for overseeing the additive manufacturing (AM) process in Raynham from an engineering perspective.

Major responsibilities include:

• Be the process owner for the Raynham Additive Manufacturing (AM) equipment

• Oversee the additive manufactured prototype builds and develop robust processes

• Establish proper process controls, routine testing, and systems for our AM equipment, including PMs and performing process scrap reviews and trending

• Conduct and plan the design and development of assorted analytical analyses as they pertain to raw materials and process specifications; including in-coming, in-process, and post processing analyses.

• Optimize and qualify our additive manufacturing processes to be able to be utilized in production

• Assist cross function new product introduction teams as well as base business teams on completing concept feasibility work and then qualifying instrumentation to be fabricated using AM

• Oversee AM process for products produced in the Raynham AM center as well as support process/products transfers to other facilities as required

• Help management identify the technical resources and capabilities required to effectively support the Raynham AM Center

• As required, perform various material, product, and process evaluations and analyses

• Be an active member and Raynham AM representative on the monthly Raynham quality system and environmental, health, and safety (EHS) management reviews

• Lead continuous improvement projects within the Raynham AM center, including initiatives related to quality, equipment installations, EHS, 5S, Lean, and other shop floor control enhancements as well as scrap initiatives to achieve departmental goals.

• Perform quotes to R&D (cost and lead time) on prototype builds as well as provide design for manufacturability and instrument cost feedback to new product development (NPD) teams as needed.

• Brainstorm AM instrument and tooling design concepts with GDC Manufacturing Engineers, R&D, and Front End concept teams as well as other colleagues across company on their AM needs, as applicable.

• Research current and emerging AM technologies, and work with Company’s 3D Printing Center of Excellence team, Company team as well as external partners on completing feasibility studies.,

• Identify and implement methods to effectively streamline and optimize our AM processes utilizing six sigma and lean methodologies, where applicable and once formally trained.

• Perform project planning, developing timelines and identifying key milestones

• Maintain compliance with all company policies and procedures in regards to all quality, environmental, health, and safety (EHS) and actively participate in quality and EHS audits of the AM center.

• Oversee the completion and on-time delivery of all AM prototype orders.

• Actively participate in AM technology discussions and strategic roadmaps, including developing and leveraging best practices for AM across Company .

• Coordinate effective in-process materials utilization and support programs to improve material procurement, storage, and usage


• BS Engineering degree required in Mechanical, Biomedical, Material Science, Chemical, or Industrial Engineering. Advanced degree such as MS Engineering or PhD is plus.

• Previous work experience in additive manufacturing is required.

• Experience with Materialise Mimics software and develop and manipulating CAD models are a plus.

• Basic understanding of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerance (GD&T) is plus.

• Demonstrated ability to learn new things as well as continue to set more progressive goals and achieve them

• Must be hands-on and able to manage/support multiple key technical projects

• Knowledge of GMPs, ISO 13485 Design Control, and manufacturing process qualification requirements as related to medical devices is a plus.

• Able to work effectively in a cross-functional team environment (including with external institutions and university research centers), brainstorm solutions, and lead change

• Excellent interpersonal skills along with strong analytical and problem solving skills are essential

• Must possess good self-awareness as well as organizational and emotional intelligence

• Must be able to effectively communicate with all levels of the organization

• Ability to travel up to 20%
