Job Description

Operates track or rubber tire excavator with mounted hydraulically powered bucket or scoop to lift and move bulk materials performing the following duties.

Responsibilities and Duties

-Must be willing to travel if required.

-Starts engine and moves machine into working or storage position, steering by pushing and pulling levers and/or toggle switches and press pedals that control forward and backward motion of machine.

-Moves levers and or toggle switches and press pedals (often in response to hand signals) to rotate machine on chassis, raise and lower boom, and extend/retract/curl bucket.

-Digs to line and grade.

-Utilizes trench box, sloping, sheeting and/or shoring in excavations over five feet in depth.

-Inspects equipment for defective parts and notifies supervisor of defects or malfunctions makes adjustments and minor repairs.

-May assist mechanic in repairing equipment.

-Performs routine maintenance such as lubricating, fueling, and cleaning.

-When not operating, servicing or repairing equipment, may assist in other operations as designated by supervisor.

-Other duties may be assigned.

Qualifications and Skills

Education and/or Experience

High school diploma or general education degree (GED) and one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Other Skills

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to stand; walk; sit; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
