Coastal Database Administrator

Ocean Associates, Inc. is seeking a candidate with broad experience in database work in order to support both coastal data acquisition and the current coastal product portfolio which are based on a variety of database applications and data services for NOAA’s National Center for Environmental Information (NCEI). Specifically, the candidate will be working with coastal data acquisition efforts and will be working with data providers such as the National Marine Fisheries Service (NMFS) to meet common formats for data submitted for both archive and inclusion in NCEI’s Center for Coasts, Oceans and Geophysics (CCOG) products.

Expected position start date: June 2018

Location: Stennis, MS

Salary and Benefits

This is a full-time position with excellent employee benefits, including medical insurance, holiday, vacation, and sick leave. Salary commensurate with experience.

Required Knowledge and Experience

Master’s Degree or higher from an accredited college or university with an oceanography, meteorology, natural resources management, environmental science, mathematics major or related field plus 16 years of experience in coastal and ocean database management.

Experience in database management for spatially enabled coastal or environmental data including use of ArcGIS for Server, Oracle, Postgres and SQL.

Experience in linking geodatabases to environmental or coastal ocean applications related data services.

Industry Certification required.

Demonstrated experience with finetuning database performance tuning, establishing and maintaining database security, quality and integrity to standards and promoting process improvement and strategic planning.

Demonstrated experience with stakeholder support related to database input, quality and accessibility.

Ability to pass a Federal government background check.

Preferred Knowledge and Experience

Prior experience with NCEI and CCOG products or other relevant experience working with NOAA.

The position requires access to Federal office buildings or ships and communication networks. Applicants must have US citizenship or right to work documents that do not expire during the contract period, combined with two years of US residency before the start of employment.
