Senior Financial Planning Analyst

Operating under the general direction of the Director of Financial Planning & Internal Reporting and in line with generally accepted accounting principles, the Senior Financial Planning Analyst will provide internal reports and perform financial analyses and reviews that enable Executive Management to make sound financial and operational decisions.

The Senior Financial Planning Analyst is expected to independently formulate project requirements, develop timelines, coordinate external department interaction, evaluate alternative solutions, and coordinate implementation or provide recommendations to Executive Management as appropriate. Many of these projects will entail confidential business analysis.


Primary duties:

Liaison between Executive & Departmental Management and the Accounting Organization

Coordinates and publishes monthly internal companywide Operations Review book and other internal financial reports

Directs the preparation of the financial budget and performance planning process, working with all levels of management

Assists Executive and Department management in expense analysis and expense control

Coordinates the monthly forecast process with all levels of management

Coordinates the preparation of strategic plans

Guides the capital planning and evaluation process

Performs reviews of capital spending projects and provides related guidance to department managers

Develops internal management reports to assist managers in evaluating business trends

Assists in the preparation and development of quarterly Board of Directors and other External presentations

Assists in the development of external facing quarterly and annual audited financial reports and related Management’s Discussion and Analysis

Assists with financial analysis and modeling on special projects

Secondary duties:

Active participant in cross functional teams within the company to improve processes, reduce costs, etc.

Implements or assists in system enhancements, implementation of department efficiencies and development of policies and procedures

Provides training to department managers in areas related to actual reporting, forecasting, budgeting, capital evaluation and cost improvement evaluation

Assists the Corporate Controller with external and internal audits

GAAP and tax research as needed

Supports the financial reporting systems

Support the Tax Director with quarter-end tax provision information as needed

Coordinates post-audits of selected capital investments

Performs other special projects as assigned by the Director Financial Planning & Internal Reporting which may include benchmarking competitor market share, financial strength and products; evaluation of benefit plan alternatives; impact of accounting changes; manufacturing analyses such as make vs. buy, and acquisition support and integration; and evaluation, selection and implementation of accounting related system enhancements.

Provides support to department managers on special projects as directed by the Vice President, Chief Financial Officer; Chief Executive Officer; or other Executive Management.

Job Requirements


Minimum of 4-8 years previous accounting experience required

Prefer 1-2 years of experience in an accounting management position

Experience in public accounting, budget preparation, cost accounting, financial analysis, capital evaluation, process re-engineering and general accounting expertise is preferred

Proficiency with Microsoft Office software (Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Access)

Experience with SAP is preferred

Experience with Cognos Planning or Cognos TM1 is preferred

Bachelor Degree in Accounting required

CPA or CMA certification is desirable
