Job Description

GENERAL FUNCTION

Provide the technical and administrative skills necessary to lead and manage three to five product development projects with scopes of sales of up to $10 million for Building Insulation; Batts, Rolls, Membranes and accessories for the Contractor, Distributor and Retail business channels. Projects include both Regional (North America), as well as those with Global Implications, with Regional and / or Global (GIE) funding. Also included is work required for the review and implementation of new MTO (Made to Order) products as requested by the Sales force. Lead and / or support cost savings programs for IG’s Operations Group. Provide technical assistance to Marketing and Manufacturing in areas of existing and new product performance and manufacturing process. Prepare Specifications for new products and provide support to maintain existing Specifications to ensure they are current and accurate. Provide training to customers and distributors on company’s insulation products and systems. Demonstrate insulation products and systems at customer locations and trade show events.

Extensive travel may be required (up to 50%)

DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES

New Product Development for Building Insulation

•Lead 3 to 5 new product development programs

•Utilize the Stage / Gate development process

•Keep abreast of new developments and technologies in the Building Insulation area

•Provide organized documentation of program activities for reference

Cost Savings Programs

•Work with Purchasing and Manufacturing to implement cost savings programs

Provide Technical Support for Marketing and Manufacturing

•Assist in evaluating proposed MTO products and implement those needed for the business

•Provide technical assistance for the Building Insulation product and process areas

Specifications

•Prepare Product, Packaging and Raw Material Purchase specifications for new products

•Update specifications for Building Insulation products

Training

•Train customers and distributors on company’s Building Insulation products and systems

•Demonstrate products and systems for customers and at trade show events

PROBLEM SOLVING

Skills in problem solving and decision making are necessary to complete projects successfully and address issues related to personnel (resource needs), technical options, manufacturing costs, raw material costs and performance and market needs. The engineer must successfully interface with Marketing, Sales, Purchasing, Production, Suppliers and Customers.

KNOWLEDGE

• BS in Engineering or Science; 3-5 years of product development experience and recognized expertise in insulation products.

• Data treatment skills: MS Excel as a minimum, JMP/Minitab or similar software by preference.

• Knowledge of the end use and installation of fiber glass and foam insulation and other associated building materials. Validated Project Management skills are a must.

COMMENTS

Skill in communicating both written and orally with all levels inside and outside the corporation as necessary including R&D, Marketing, Manufacturing, Suppliers, Customers and other firm affiliates. Organizational skills, in managing and scheduling of multiple projects and priorities, are essential. Extensive travel (up to 50%) may be required and work sometimes necessary outside normal business hours.

Job Insight:
