Workers Compensation Medical Billing Assistant/Collector

GENERAL JOB SUMMARY:

The WC Medical Billing Assistant/Collector is responsible for timely data input of charge tickets of services rendered by client companies and mailed out.

The Medical Billing Assistant/Collector will be responsible for the billing and collections for company physicals to include; drug screens, physical exams, audio, vision, and spirometry testing, along with back and lifting assessments and various other charges.

Collections on billable charges not paid by each client companies must be contacted via phone, email or fax monthly.

The Billing Assistant will also assist the Certified Procedural Coder with patient status report calls, claim numbers and miscellaneous insurance requests by the claims adjusters and other insurance department duties as needed.

Based on business requirements, the Billing Assistant/Collector will be expected to perform other duties, on occasion within the billing office as assigned by the supervisor.

EDUCATION AND TRAINING:

- High School graduate or GED Certificate required

- Must have one of the following: 1-2 years applicable work experience

ESSENTIAL KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

-Basic skills using routine office equipment: computer, copier, fax and telephone etiquette a must!

-Typing 35-40 words per minute, 10 key preferred by touch

-Must possess good customer service skills

-Must possess effective reasoning and deductive ability

-Must be highly organized and detail oriented

-Must be able to adapt quickly to stressful work environment

-Must be able to work in team environment, as well as independently

-Must be able to communicate effectively in English

-Must possess good grammar, spelling, writing and verbal skills

-Must be able to read, correctly interpret and follow written guidelines/protocols

-Must be able to learn and apply new skills

-Must maintain confidentiality when dealing with medical information

-Medical software experience preferred

-Good computer and keyboarding skills: MS Word required, Excel preferred

Must Have Knowledge of the following:

-Must have knowledge of California OMFS

-Must have knowledge of California second bill review/appeals process

-Basic knowledge of workers compensation insurance required

-Basic knowledge of CPT and ICD-10 codes required

-We use DWC SBR-1form (Second Bill Review) to recoup unpaid bills

-Knowledge of CalMed – Practice Expert Software a plus
