Global supplier of protective and marine coatings is seeking a talented formulation paints and coatings chemist to join their R&D team.

DESCRIPTION

In this role, the Paint Chemist will be accountable for formulation and development of new and improved paint products in support of the company’s goals and objectives. The Paint Chemist will design and execute experiments to achieve product design targets, create formulas and batches, test batches, data analysis. The Paint Chemist will identify and resolve formula and quality issues, providing formula feedback, supporting plant and field trials for new products, and maintain accurate documentation of formula validation.

REQUIREMENTS

Understanding of fundamental chemistry principles and practices;

Working with instrumental analysis (Chromatography, Spectroscopy, Colorimetric);

Independent lab work organization and planning;

Performing basic professional quality, statistical, and related analytical studies;

Communicating technical information;

Preparing project reports and findings;

Ensuring compliance with department policies and procedures and applicable laws, rules, and regulations;

PC skills; Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook); and other applicable applications;

Communicating with co-workers to provide and receive direction;

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum of 5+ years of experience in a paint/coatings R&D laboratory environment.

BS or BA in Chemistry or Chemical Engineering or related field.

MUST have R&D and formulation experience with functional ingredients for various coatings including epoxy, protective coatings formulations.

Prefer: zinc rich marine and protective coatings formulations.

Knowledge of solvent base coatings; some water base experience a plus.

Experience dealing with customers and working with the sales and marketing team to develop new opportunities.

Excellent communication skills.

Individual contributor and willing to work in a team environment.

Must be currently authorized to work in United States.
