Our client is seeking an experienced, quality minded, self-motivated, and detail oriented team player for the position of Biopolymer Development Scientist.

Polymer chemist responsible for development, optimization and quality control for the production of biomaterials and biobased industrial chemicals.

The successful candidate will be a key member of a multidisciplinary team and will work closely with a broader global team including biology and biochemistry researchers, downstream biochemists and bioprocess engineers, and external collaborators and customers.

Responsible for developing, evaluating and optimizing technologies, processes and methodologies for production of new biomaterials and biopolymers and their incorporation into new products. As well as providing quality control over said production.

Design research methods and implement workflows/protocols for the optimized production of target products according to performance requirements utilizing the latest knowledge of chemical engineering and biopolymer chemistry.

Support bioprocess engineering and metabolic engineering development of bioprocesses and products.

Establish and maintain effective working relationships with other R&D teams, commercial, and manufacturing teams to ensure technology commercialization.

Lead/assist the development of new product concepts, building business cases for proposed initiatives or solutions and coordinating and supporting the introduction of biomaterial products.

Ph.D. or MSc in Polymer Chemistry or Chemical engineering and/or a related field with proven industrial experience.

3-5 years experience in a related industrial bioprocess environment.

Knowledge of polymer chemistry, product development and quality control for technologies focusing on biobased resins, biopolymers, natural fibers, biocomposite and bioplastics.

Experience with processing and characterization of biomaterials including all physical & chemical property testing.

Excellent technical aptitude, and proven experience in project management, organization, facilitation, problem solving, and quantitative analysis skills. Ability to plan projects effectively, set goals, manage several projects simultaneously and meet deadlines.

Excellent presentation, communication and scientific documentation skills.

Highly motivated and energetic. Work well in team environment and possess the interpersonal and communication skills needed to work effectively in cross-functional teams.
