RESPONSIBILITIES: Set the direction of network communications that are secure and enable the business to be successful in all new builds, dry docks, embarkations, data center communications, Internet Services, Wireless Services and all communication infrastructure required for every application across the company.
Manage, configure, test, implement network solutions, document and educate the support model for both simple and complex configurations for the global enterprise and partners, including Sungard and Maritime Network (MTN).
Resolve outages or network latency issues using expert level technical troubleshooting by isolating the issue to help reduce downtime and increase mean time to repair (MTTR). Use tools to help the other IT disciplines trouble shoot application issues. Serve as primary network contact for all security issues and data breach network forensics.
Provide short term planning for the tactical approach to business challenges. Meet with business owners to understand and assist define direction based on the network infrastructure capabilities. Select and guide business vendors to the right solutions that help meet company objectives.
Assist Manager, Network Services in leading, administering, and representing the Network and Security teams.
Mentor and guide the other Network Team members and help ensure smooth and constant communication with the IT Security team as well as the other IT disciplines. This includes participating and working side by side with the Senior Security Engineer to align efforts to ensure tools, processes, and projects are synchronized.
Perform other job related functions as assigned.
EDUCATION: Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, MIS or related field of study; or any equivalent combination of relevant experience, education and training. Advanced networking certifications strongly preferred. Project management training preferred.
EXPERIENCE: 6-8 years’ experience with configuration and management of advanced enterprise networking hardware including routers, switches, voice over IP telephony, wireless infrastructure, firewalls and internet proxy devices. Recent experience with network administration/configuration/management related. Industry experience strongly preferred. Security administration experience is a plus.
KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS: Strong knowledge of networking protocols to include advanced routing (BGP, EIGRP, OSPF) and switching (Cisco proprietary protocols and network standard protocols including spanning-tree, trunking protocol, MPLS.)
Ability to work independently in a real time environment with excellent troubleshooting skills. Sound decision-making skills and communication skills (written and verbal) with ability to manage and deliver infrastructure projects.
Ability to maintain technical expertise in all areas of network and computer hardware and software interconnection and interfacing, including but not limited to: routers, switches, VoIP, TDM Telephony, and Security.
1st – To be a Datacenter Engineer (CCIE DC type of candidate).
