Position Summary

The Hospitalist Advanced Practice Provider (NP or PA-C) provides direct patient care services for surgically ill adult, adolescent and pediatric patients on an intermediate and/or step-down unit or in the clinic in collaboration with residents and surgeons. The NP or PA performs physical exams, collects and documents data, conducts diagnostic and therapeutic procedures, orders and schedules laboratory studies and professional consultations, prescribes appropriate interventions and medications, coordinates the care and discharge of patients, may assist in the operating room and provides direct patient care services. The Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant contributes to excellence in patient care, research, teaching and provides leadership in the organization.


Primary hours will be fourteen 12 hour shifts covering 7 days a week including days, night, weekends and holidays. Flexibility is required to meet clinical needs of the service.

Position Requirements

PA: Work requires graduation from a Physician Assistant program accredited by the

Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physician Assistant (ARC-PA) or its

NP: Work requires completion of accredited graduate level Family Nurse Practitioner program.

NP: Current licensure as a Registered Nurse in the state of North Carolina and approval to

PA: Licensure as a Physician Assistant in the state of North Carolina.

PA: National Commission on Certification of PAs (NCCPA) certification is required

NP: National certification as an FNP or similar to be able to see adult and pediatric patients

Preferred 1-2 years of experience in a similar setting but not required
