Safety, Security & Environmental Manager

Job Description:

Oversees both the implementation of Company Safety, Security & Environmental management systems (e.g. ISO), as well as the approach for how the Company's management systems will be executed within the facility. Develops, designs, and has responsibility for the implementation and follow-through of the local processes. Follows up on identified issues and develops the systems to resolve them based on root cause analysis. Develops or acquires custom tools or systems to address specific issues. Leads the overall process of plant engagement with Safety and Environmental and develops any corresponding teams to support execution of the work activities that drive process improvements and control.

Responsible for all aspects of air, water and waste compliance and corporate sustainability requirements. This includes: ISO 14001 recordkeeping, air permitting and emissions tracking, SWPPP permit and sampling, the SPCC plan, hazardous /universal waste disposal, EPI reports, Tier II, TRI 313, and Refrigerant Tracking.

Provides leadership and guidance to plant leaders and supervisors regarding the Behavioral Safety Program. Promotes a Zero Accident culture through use of Integrated Lean Six Sigma (IL6S) tools and Value-Led Safety. Responsible for the Safety Reward & Recognition program. Leads multiple Union-Management Safety Committees.

Provides leadership and administration to the overall SSE program by developing an annual plan, achieving consensus and buy-in from site leadership against the plan, and actively monitors progress against the plan and corresponding objectives. Drives current year results and metrics against previous year's performance.

Key expectations for the site SSE may include, but are not limited to:

Develops safety performance standards and methods/processes to accomplish those standards for the facility. Consistently follows up on performance against goals.

Understands the Zero Accident mentality and acts as a catalyst for cultural change.

Understands relevant technical requirements in SSE fields include Federal, State and Local ordinances and regulations.

Ensures the facility standards are in compliance with both Company and governmental/community regulations (OSHA, Homeland Security, Mondelez International standards, etc.).

Ensures appropriate risk assessments are conducted and corresponding follow-ups are implemented in each functional area (Safety, Security and/or Environmental) to minimize and/or eliminate accidents, asset losses, security breaches, and environmental issues that have the potential to cause harm to one of the Company's employees, contractors, visitors, assets, or reputation.

Provides SSE expertise for all new projects, equipment, and change management initiatives.

Manages the facility Worker's Compensation program and seeks to identify opportunities for cost reduction. Ensures key partners across the facility are trained on how to handle work-related injuries and that key partners within the facility are notified of a work-related injury throughout its duration.

Takes the lead on partnering with on-site Human Resources to coordinate and organize the annual safety, security, and environmental compliance training program.

Ensures training and coaching are taking place to drive a safety-perfect culture and to ensure safety, security, and environmental standards and awareness are well understood throughout the plant organization.

Personally conducts high-priority topic training; and regularly attends all plant communications/meetings to reinforce SSE culture.

Provides upward and peer coaching to Plant Manager and site leadership team on their specific roles and responsibilities as visible leaders within the facility and advocates for a safety-perfect culture.

Serves as the plant's primary point of contact for all SSE regulatory and community contacts, all plant SSE teams and processes, and is the primary technical resource for OSHA compliance.

Demonstrates a willingness to take on new and existing challenges; and further demonstrates an overall sense of responsibility and accountability to site safety, security and environmental matters and processes.

Builds a positive network within the community, region, and business unit with other SSE professionals and/or regulatory compliance agencies.

Qualifications:

The successful candidate will have demonstrated experience with federal, state and local compliance agencies in regulatory filings such as: air emissions, waste water, storm water & chemicals, etc. Must have detailed knowledge and understanding of OSHA, EPA and ISO certifications.

A 4-year degree is required, preferably in Engineering, Occupational/Industrial Safety & Health, or other related field.

Successful candidates will have 5+ years of Safety, Security and Environmental experience, preferably in an industrial environment.

Candidate must demonstrate excellent communication, people leadership, and teamwork skills.

Experience in a Union environment highly preferred.

Experience with Integrated Lean Six Sigma and/or TPM highly preferred.
