SUMMARY OF POSITION

The Process Safety Engineer is responsible for leading and supporting the site’s Process Safety Management strategies while maintaining compliance with regulatory requirements. The PSE coordinates and facilitates process safety management through leading the site’s Process Hazard Analysis (PHA)/HAZOPs programs in order to identify, evaluate and control potential hazards within processes including hazard identification, risk assessments, mitigation planning and project implementation, development of procedures, compliance auditing and compliance reporting. The incumbent will lead, manage and facilitate the completion of process hazard identification and risk assessments to develop risk management strategies for the facility by identifying potential or actual adverse process safety hazards. The PSE will review all Management of Change (MOCs) for PSM related items and ensure that process safety related documentation for all identified hazards are developed and maintained. The incumbent will also be the site point of contact for all process safety related matters by providing day-to-day guidance and addressing training needs through in-house resources or external consultancy.

TRAINING, EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, SKILLS AND OTHER QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED FOR THE POSITION:

Chemical/Mechanical Engineering or Safety related degree, required

Minimum 5 years’ experience working in a process environment (chemical / oil & gas)

Experience in writing and implementation of new policies

Must be knowledgeable in process safety management as defined by 29 CFR Part 1910.119 OSHA PSM and 40 CFR Part 68 EPA RMP

Must have experience devising and implementing process safety related policies

Must have a thorough understanding of EHS regulations and standards

Must be able to present and communicate at several levels within the business
