To Whom It May Concern:

I am applying to the New York Child Resource Center Co. for the position as a Speech Language Pathologist for my Clinical Fellowship Year. I recently learned of this opportunity through monster.com. After my years of undergraduate study at University of Delaware and my current years of study at Adelphi University, I believe that I am fully equipped to seamlessly blend into the mission of your program as a Speech Language Pathologist for my Clinical Fellowship Year. After progressing through intensive undergraduate and graduate clinical programs, I am confident that I would be an asset to the New York Child Resource Center Co..

Through my academic programs, I have gained a great deal of experience across a variety of settings. At Adelphi University, I was able to expand my professional and clinical skills with in-house clinical assignments, as well as through externship placements at Winthrop University Hospital, and McKenna Elementary School. In addition to these externship placements, I also have experience working with adults and children with Autism Spectrum Disorder. During this time, I participated in evaluations and wrote extensive evaluation reports for new clients, as well as provided family counseling. This summer I will also be completing a final placement at the Center for Developmental Disabilities, where I will be exposed to upcoming technology such as DynaVox Maestro, VMax, Express augmentative communication devices, and Apple applications to enhance speech and language abilities. In completing two semesters of Adelphi’s in-house practicum, I have gained experience with language-delayed preschoolers, clients with aphasia, as well as culturally and linguistically diverse populations. My diverse externship placements across a variety of environments have expanded my knowledge across medical, school based and clinical settings Aside from my academic experiences, I have unique personal traits, which set me apart from other applicants. I come from a family of four children, in which I am the oldest sibling. This has given me a gift of relating to and understanding children very well, and feeling very comfortable working with them in the classroom as well as reaching out to them on a personal level. I was in a dance company for twelve years of my life, and have great appreciation of the arts and creativity. Lastly, in college I was the philanthropic chair of my sorority, which taught me administrative responsibilities, as well as the importance of giving back to the community. These placements as well as my life experiences have enhanced my clinical insight and have encouraged personal growth. My empathy for others, ability to foster strong relationships with co-workers, demonstration of depth to all therapy sessions, and understanding of treating the client as a whole, have all progressed through my hands on clinical experiences.

Thank you for considering me for the position of Speech Language Pathologist for the New York Child Resource Center Co. I look forward to hearing from you in the near future and encourage you to contact me with any questions you may have.

Sincerely,

Jessica Aberger
