I’m writing to express my interest in employment in your department. I feel that with my seven years of military background as a combat medic/orthopedic specialist along with my academic and clinical year rotations and two plus years practicing experience, have prepared me to become a valuable member of your team at your Facility.

Unfortunately due to financial problems, long island college hospital was forced to close some departments and lay off a large number of staff. Being that I have the least seniority, I was one of the unfortunate ones to be laid off.

My love for medicine started in the military, working along Physician assistants. When I applied for PA school in the military, I was denied because of a shortage in my job field. My love for medicine and the want to learn more forced me to leave the military in the hopes of attending PA school. Unfortunately financial obligation with raising a family of five led me to construction as a union glazier. To make a long story short, I worked hard and in five years I raised enough money to attend PA school.

So as you can see I have a strong work ethic, and I believe I would be an asset to your facility. I am also eager to learn and realize that medicine will be a continual education. I look forward to working with other medical staff as part of a team to provide the best patient care possible.

Combat medic duties

 Provide front line emergency medical care/management in country and abroad, in any conditions

 Stabilizing patient for evacuations as well as in route management.

 In hospital settings, drew blood specimens for submission to main laboratory center for appropriate testing; performed EKG's, IV excess, triage patients, wound care, dressings, sutures.

 Interacted with and assisting the physicians and medical personnel in the diagnosing and treatment of patients; responded to hospital codes; provided support in emergency room cases.

Orthopedic duties

• Casting and splinting of all types in clinical and in the field, management of fractures preoperative, in operating room, and postoperative.

• First assist to the orthopedic surgeons in the operating room on all types of cases ie, hand (carpal tunnel release), joint (total knee, total hip, ankle reconstructions), general (rods, plates, pins, external fixations, internal fixations) and emergency room evaluations under physician supervision and fracture manipulation/immobilization.

• Provide follow up care in clinic suture/staple removal, cast changes, wound care including ulcers, incision sites, puncture wounds etc….

• Amputation management, serial casting, moldings for prosthesis.
