Plant Production Manager Jan. 2007-Present

Handcraft Linen Services Richmond, VA.

This is the senior management position of a healthcare linen laundry and distribution facility which processes 26 million pounds of product per year and reports to the Operations Manager. Four department managers and 4 production supervisors report to this position. Responsibilities include:

•All aspects of the plant’s daily operations which include soil sorting, tunnel system/dryers/conventional washers, flat irons/folders and packing.

•Linen distribution to over 50 health care facilities throughout Virginia/West Virginia and Delaware.

•Inventory control, quality control, and production personnel staffing and training.

•Equipment and facilities maintenance.

Production/Quality/Continuous Improvement Manager Jan. 2005-Dec. 2006

Rehrig International Richmond, VA.

Responsible for production scheduling and execution to insure on time delivery of product that meets or exceeds customer expectations in the most cost efficient and productive manner. Tasked with the on going analysis and improvement of existing manufacturing procedures to maximize labor effectivity and product profitability.

•Converted the quality process from independent inspectors to manufacturing team based quality assurance.

•Developed new tooling to consolidate multiple operations and eliminate excess labor and increase product throughput.

•Manage tool room operations and outside tooling suppliers/vendors in support of above objectives.

•Direct engineering department in standardization of manufactured products.

Plant Manager Feb. 2000-Dec. 2004

Visual Display Inc. Woodside, N.Y.

Full charge of custom store fixture manufacturing facility employing 50 people and producing $6M in annual sales. Prepared and executed the production plan in support of senior management’s sales reports and customer delivery requirements. Managed the purchasing department function to insure on time material availability to support the manufacturing plan.

•Directed redesign of manufacturing tooling to standardize similar components of several

•products. This enabled us to reduce set up time and costs and eliminate errors in manufacturing and assembly.

•Reengineered plant manufacturing process from batch to one piece flow reducing the required floor space from 85,000 square feet to 50,000 square feet and improving on time delivery by 24%. This enabled the owners to lease out 25,000 square feet and reduce building overhead.

•Used the remaining 10,000 square feet of space to establish our own in house woodworking shop, thereby eliminating expensive and unreliable wood component purchases and increasing the company’s product offerings and profitability.

Plant Manager/Director of Manufacturing Oct. 1992-Nov. 1999

National Elevator Cab & Door Corp. Woodside, N.Y.

Directed a mixed trade 125 employee multi-plant facility producing $15M of elevator cab interiors and hollow metal entrances annually in all materials. Responsible for the following functions: sales, estimating, billing, purchasing, engineering, manufacturing, quality, installation, human resources, labor relations.

•Represent company interests at all meetings with clients, building management (job sites), and other project contractors.

•Championed development of engineering software that automatically produced CNC punching programs for components as their shop drawings were developed, thereby eliminating the need for intermediary programming and human error in the programming process.

•Source, negotiate, and contract for materials and services from all domestic and international vendors. Developed and outsourced a standard cab interior package that was imported and shipped direct to the jobsite at a savings of 30% of domestic manufacturing cost.

•Computerized production and WIP reports.

Production Manager Jan. 1978- Sep. 1992

Custom Metal Industries Inc. Brooklyn, N.Y.

Started as a shop mechanic and advanced to shop foreman and then production manager during a six year period. Responsible for all production and maintenance operations of a specialty metal stamping and fabricating plant producing high volume stampings for all industries, machined parts and hydraulic assemblies for the aerospace industry, high end store fixtures and designer furniture.

•Automated several stamping press operations resulting in a 20% cut in department payroll while increasing production by 150% and reducing safety risks and quality issues.

•Standardized shut height openings on non automated equipment and instituted SMED procedures to decrease changeover down time and maximize production efficiency.

•Applied 6S techniques to streamline and improve assembly department efficiency and productivity resulting in an improvement in on time delivery from 76% TO 94%.
