Potroom Specialist (Consultant/Manager/Superintendent)

• Heading and training staff in modern plant management (including Department Managers).

• Since Dec’08, entrusted with dual responsibilities spending 3 weeks in Jharsuguda, Orissa and one week in Korba, Chhattisgarh.

• Permanently located in Jharsuguda since Mar’09 to ensure successful commissioning of the first phase 250 000 tons + the second phase another 250 000 tons.

• Conducting audits and ensuring implementation of the findings and continuous improvement in quality of work and logistics management.

SIGNIFICANT ACCOMPLISHMENTS:

• Successfully exceeded targets above the nameplate capacity of 245 000 tons in GAMI designed (Chinese) potline with 288 pots at 320 kA in Korba.

• Actively involved in restart of 120 pots, implementing world-class practices, systems and process management and achieving complete transformation.

• Played a major role in maintaining smelter with excellent results.

• Spearheaded improvement projects in the Casthouse, Alumina Plant and Fabrication (+Process Score Card, Asset Optimization and Contingency plans).

• As “Room In-charge” or Production Superintendent, achieved output of Room 2 Potline 1 with 152 pots and about 100 employees.

• Proficiently controlled anode, butts and bath pallets movement for entire plant, 12 Anode Transport Vehicles and drivers and coordinated with the Rodding Room and the Mobile Vehicles Workshop.

• Six Sigma Net Carbon Consumption project champion, achieving 405 kg/t of Aluminium, leading a small anode cover auditing team.

Alcoa Portland, Australia Sep’05– Aug’06

Production Supervisor (Casthouse)

• Leading a team of 18 operators producing around 500 tons of ingots per 12 hour shift on 3 Gautchi casting lines.

• Ramping up alloy ingots production (adding silicon, copper, titanium, magnesium, manganese), improving speed and efficiency of the alloy furnace preparation, de-bottlenecking.

Mozal (BHPBilliton) Maputo, Mozambique Jul’99 – Dec’04

Supervisor Reduction

• Greenfield Plant AP35 Technology Potrooms with 144 pots each: Capacity building of Mozambican supervisors, training, pot inspections, work quality inspections, improvement plans, presentation of results to the management, occasionally leading teams of 14 operators.

• Actively involved in pots changeout, pot turnaround improvement from 7 to 4 days, breakers and feeders maintenance cost reduction, amperage increase, anode effects control, all resulting in significant cost saving and improved operation.

• Early Life Supervisor Mozal II start-up: Led a crew of 7 inexperienced shift operators performing all tasks before and after pots start-up: cathode preheating, measurements, corrections, anode effects, anode recycling, feeders installation, metal transfer, slabs change, bath additions, temperature measurements, anode cover and hoods change. 288 pots have been started in record time.

• Actively involved in operators recruitment, organizing consumables supply, writing training modules, organizing module presentations for all operators, presenting modules personally, supervising teams of 16 operators from vehicle driving before start-up through to full commissioning of the plant.

• Merit of running full production, including Mozal II expansion with teams of 16-20 operators achieving excellent production, safety (5 proactivity trophies) and quality results, contributing to numerous improvements.

Rio Tinto Comalco Aluminium Ltd., Queensland, Australia Jul’90 – Jul’99

Process & Development Engineer, Potroom Production Crew Leader

• Assessing training requirements, organizing required training, monitoring progress of new employees, monitoring safety and quality standards, assigning tasks and undertaking performance reviews with team members.

• On Secondment to BSL for the Anode Handling Project, running butt crushing trials, rod polishing & stub cleaning evaluations including financial analysis, writing complete reports, also BSL Bath Mass Balance and Cell Cover trials. Results were used in production improvements.

SIGNIFICANT ACCOMPLISHMENTS:

• Efficiently headed a crew of 15 Operators, maintaining a reduction line with 196 pots full production.

• Played a major role in supervising up to 20 crewmembers, 196 pots production.

• Instrumental in providing technical support in project work, daily monitoring of operations in Potrooms, involved in Superpurity Trial, Flowerpot Anode Type Trial, 48 hours tapping/ Crustbreaker trial, Potline 4/2 half bay conversion, HMB Process Control and HMB/Compass implementation.

SIGNIFICANT ACCOMPLISHMENTS:

• Actively coordinated, organized and controlled all the operations in reductions with 208 pots (Alusuisse technology) producing 75 000 tons/year of aluminium.

• Led workforce of 317 Operators, Maintainers, Technicians and Supervisors. The record production has been achieved, extra 2000 tons produced with all costs reduced compared to previous years.
