PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE

SENIOR LOGISTICS ENGINEER, GENERAL DYNAMICS LAND SYSTEMS (GDLS), Muskegon, MI, 2006 to present

Manufacturer of combat systems, subsystems and components with 7,500 employees worldwide and 2008 sales of $11 billion

Serve as Lead Engineer for the Reconnaissance and Surveillance Vehicle; perform component assessments; ensure integrated systems are maintainable, supportable, and easy to use in combat. Provide design guidance; generate preliminary maintenance procedures and associated metrics such as Mean Time to Repair (MTTR), Maintenance Ratio (MR), and Operational Availability (Ao).

 Saved a projected $800,000 in labor costs and provided GDLS with a competitive advantage in the global armored vehicle market by developing the Logistics System Integration Tool (LSIT), a Visual Basic application which models maintenance tasks and streamlines data generation and management.

 Runner up for Engineer of the Year, GDLS 2008.

 Nominated for the Ferguson Award for Systems Engineering Excellence in 2009, a national award sponsored by the National Defense Industrial Association (NDIA).

 Completely redesigned the interior layout of the Reconnaissance and Surveillance Vehicle, which resulted in:

 Improved ergonomics, accessibility, and maintainability.

 Reduced projected lifecycle costs of $1.2 million for the entire fleet.

 Recognition by senior leadership for exceeding customer expectations.

 Optimized maintenance approach for the Joint Light Tactical Vehicle, which resulted in:

 Reduced need for tools, support equipment, and maintenance labor hours.

 Reduced projected production and lifecycle costs of $123.8 million for the entire fleet.

 Improved productivity and reduced long-term costs by developing and distributing a set of systems integration best practices, which effectively transformed the design culture and increased the skill level of team members.

SENIOR SYSTEMS ENGINEER, SIEMENS LOGISTICS & ASSEMBLY SYSTEMS, Grand Rapids, MI, 2004 to 2005

Provider of design, production, and life cycle support for material handling equipment used in large retail distribution centers

Delivered detailed designs for conveyor system drawings and bills of material; resolved design issues; and managed equipment procurement, schedules, budgets, and deployment. Commissioned distribution center material handling equipment; verified specifications and system performance.

 Partnered with vendors to develop cost-effective "fixes" for malfunctioning robotic palletization systems:

 Installed shock absorbers on the conveyer bed to protect it and the product from a robotic system that occasionally hit the conveyor. The solution was a low-cost option that cut repair costs and increased equipment life spans.

 Sized and installed a vacuum hose management system to eliminate an abrasion problem, thus improving equipment reliability and reducing lifecycle costs.

INTERIM SUPERVISOR, NAVAL ARCHITECTURE DEPARTMENT, HYDRODYNAMICS GROUP / SENIOR ENGINEER, GENERAL DYNAMICS ELECTRIC BOAT, Groton, CT, 1997 to 2004

Managed seven engineering direct reports; project resources, and travel and material budgets. Approved engineering documentation and calculations; served as primary contact for government counterpart; interpreted design requirements and contract terms. Modified design of existing ships; designed replacement ships; led cross-functional teams of 20+ engineers; produced final engineering calculations.

 Directed the transfer, positioning, and securing of 1000+ ton hull sections onto a delivery barge.

 Led a cross-functional team in point design studies for flexible payload modules involving 19 variants.

 Consolidated engineering applications into one common concept design tool that reduced the design process timeframe from months to hours and allowed one engineer to accomplish what previously had been a team effort. The system is still in use today.

 Personally revised/validated 10 contract deliverable calculation packages involving the hydrodynamic, maneuvering and structural performance of the Virginia Class Submarine, which:

 Restored customer confidence.

 Eliminated millions in additional expenses.

 Ensured the ship met the sea trial schedule.

 Received 2001 Engineering Excellence Award for leading cross-functional efforts to develop a replacement for the NR-1, the Navy's smallest nuclear research submarine.
