CHAMBERLAIN GROUP INC. Nogales, Sonora, México

Senior Manufacturing Engineer IV

• Designed, supervised the construction, installation, debugging, start-up and certification of six wire coiling and strapping automatic machines with a combined capacity of 54,000 pieces per day. (18 personnel positions eliminated and a 400% reduction of wire scrap).

• Revamped an obsolete roll-forming line with pre-punching stations and high-frequency welding to a final rated capacity of 30,000 garage-door opener tubular steel rail segments per day. The revamp included hydraulic presses, dies, high-speed feeders, transmissions, stands, straighteners, H.F. welder, tooling and flying cutoff. (40 personnel positions eliminated and design tolerances achieved.)

• 100% responsible for the bidding, selection, layout, construction, commissioning and certification of 2 custom-made large roll-forming lines with in-line high-speed hydraulic pre-punching presses and H.F. welding, having a combined capacity of 60,000 tubular and open garage-door opener steel rail segments per day, each line is capable of processing 2 rail models in several lengths. (Costs of these projects > $3 Million)

• Successfully reduced raw material costs (> $1 Million) for garage-door opener roll-formed rails by specifying hot-rolled instead of cold-rolled steel along with significant modifications to the steel properties.

• Selected, installed, started-up and validated a new 400 MT capacity large-bed (2 x 3 meters) Komatsu press.

• Successfully headed a project for the high-volume punching of holes without deformation in hollow, thin-walled aluminum extruded garage-door opener rails.

• Responsible for the conceptual creation, construction, installation, debugging and certification of an unique semi-automatic tubular steel rail multiple cutoff machine instead of an additional rail-forming line. ($1.5 Million capital avoidance achieved)

• Started and certified the roll-forming of 3 new steel rail sections with very tight tolerances (C-rail, C-rail splices and Screw-drive rails.)

• Designed and installed a flying coolant-drying system to prevent spotting of galvanized steel rails.

1998-1999

INTEGRATED STEEL PRODUCTS INC. Brownsville, Texas
