Fortis School of Nursing-

Full Time Faculty 6/2011 to 11/2011

Taught NUR 240, first semester RN Medical Surgical and NUR 261, last semester RN Medical Surgical. I held the lead faculty position for both of these courses and lead lab manager for NUR 240 and NUR 261. I also assisted with multiple labs. I also held clinical one day per week for last semester RN students. I left because all they had for me were evening and week end hours.

Ohio Hospital Psychiatry 03/2011- 06/2011

Director of Nursing- 87 bed Psychiatric Hospital.

I was offered the position of Chief Operations Officer, Chief Nursing Officer and DON. A tier level position with in my first 90 days of employment. I declined this offer and resigned. I felt this company was not a fit for me.

VITAS Hospice-

Patient Care Administrator 11/2010- 03/2011

I worked for VITAS in Florida and they requested my assistance in this start up program. Responsible for the entire clinical operations, hiring and development of training for new employees. I was offered the General Manager position, but declined this opportunity. I left because of an unexpected death in the family and found I could no longer do hospice work.

Hondros College-

Nursing Faculty RN Program 11/2009- 11/2010

Teach nursing assessment to first quarter RN students in a one plus one program.

Responsibilities include development of lecture, management of two laboratory days with skills check off. Attend twelve hour clinicals at Doctors Hospital Cardiac Step Down, Critical Care Step Down and Medical Surgical units.

Zussman Community Hospice- Bexley, Ohio 2009-2010

Executive Director

Director of Nursing promoted to Executive Director (assuming responsibilities of both roles) within one month. Responsible for leadership and direction of twelve beds in patient hospice unit as well as the home health portion of the program.

Passed stated survey with flying colors during my tenure. The previous Executive Director returned from an extended maternity leave and it was felt they no longer needed two leadership positions for such a small hospice.

Veterans Administration Chillicothe, Ohio 2008 – 2009

Associate Chief Nurse:

Responsibilities include leadership and direction of nurses in the Mental Health Care Line, oversight of 28 bed Acute Inpatient Psych Unit, Dual Diagnosis Program, Mental Health Clinic, Mental Health Case Management, and Substance Abuse Program. Developed and implemented Nursing Primary Care model for Acute Inpatient Psych unit, implemented smoke free ban, walking rounds and treatment team processes. Relocated to Columbus area.

Trinity Hospice McLean, Virginia 2007- 2008

Executive Director:

Responsible for the start up, state licensure, Medicare certification, CHAP certification and day to day management of the hospice program. Functioned as the liaison for the governing body and the interdisciplinary team. Managed the budget and accounting systems. Wrote and enforced policies, procedures and adherence to regulatory requirements. I am proud to say we passed our state survey for licensure with zero deficiencies. Responsibilities also encompassed quality, sales management, profitability, recruitment, performance management, and contract negotiation. I developed and implemented processes and staff education. I was responsible for getting this program running from the ground up. Company closed after CFO embezzlement scandal.

Kaiser Permanente, Fairfax, Virginia 2006-2007

Clinical Coordinator:

Responsible for daily functions of multiple, three, clinics to include Orthopedic/ Podiatry, Surgery and Oncology. As well as Family Practice, Internal Medicine, Pediatrics and OB-Gyn clinics. Responsibilities include monitoring regulatory requirements, developing processes, co-chair monthly committees and supervision of employees. Supervised six mangers and approximately 150 employees in a union environment. I was accountable for all 150 annual evaluations, payroll oversight. I also worked in and with the call center assisting with problem solving, customer satisfaction and challenges such as scheduling, phone response, and call backs.

INOVA Fairfax Hospital, Fairfax, Virginia: 2004-2006

(500 bed, 7000 employee, non- profit, magnet hospital)

Occupational Health Nurse- Team Leader:

Managed and directed all pre-employment health screenings and clinic operations.

This included all necessary clearance for hire. Additional responsibilities included fit testing, exposure processes, hepatitis vaccines, environmental and safety committees. I was the only workers compensation case manger for 200 plus workers compensation claims. I developed instruction manuals to include departmental processes, clinic operations, computer documentation & data entry.

Director of Nursing:

(137 beds skilled, INOVA Commonwealth, nursing facility that included a 50 bed rehabilitation unit, a 50 bed dementia unit and a 37 bed geriatric unit.)

Responsibilities included the development and monitoring of processes, meeting regulatory (State, Federal, Joint Commission, HIPPA) requirements as well as the management of 140 employees. I logistically revised the units to create staff report rooms, developed a report document and implemented a shift to shift report process I facilitated networking with community services and collaborated with other senior leadership team. We passed Joint Commission Accreditation.

Department of Energy- Washington, DC: 2004/ 3 mo. contract

Case Manager:

Responsibilities included securing and researching Department of Energy employee’s medical and occupational health records. This included employment verification, review of disease processes and then linking the medically confirmed diseases to radiation, chemicals and/or hazardous waste exposure. I summarized findings for a physician panel. I was assigned 200 plus cases completing 30 cases per week. Responsibilities also encompassed the assurance that all case management activities followed departmental policy and procedures while remaining with in the government guidelines. The majority of my cases were awarded the $250,000.00 compensation.

VITAS Innovative Hospice Care- Miami, FL: 2000- 2003

(National Leader in Hospice Care)

Director End of Life Care:

National Liaison for Assisted Living Communities regarding End of Life issues and Hospice care. I collaborated with senior management to implement utilization of hospice services. I was responsible for quality management, customer relations, and teaching the hospice concept to communities, staff, the physician, the patient and their families. Responsibilities included quarterly reports of utilization frequency, financial reports, access patterns and trends.

Internal Consultant Surveyor:

Traveled with a team of four completing mock internal surveys of VITAS programs. Focus was on the organizations accreditation (State, Federal, Joint Commission, HIPPA. OSHA) governmental and regulatory requirements.

Team Manager:

Responsibilities included the administrative and clinical management of a 12 bed inpatient hospital based hospice unit with an average monthly census of 70-100 patients. This included the delicate balance of not only meeting VITAS policy and procedures but, encompassing that of the hospital of which we were a guest. Management of departmental budget, variance reporting, and corporate strategic planning. I implemented monthly unit meetings with a shared governance approach. Diane Backoff, General Manager, commented she had never seen such team moral or espri de corp. and customer satisfaction.

Palliative Care Liaison: VITAS Hospice

Responsibilities included the introduction of the hospice program to the patient, family and physician. I communicated and assured cooperation with community physicians, hospital leaders and providers by making weekly (marketing) visits. I usually completed three to four sign ups or initial assessment and paper work daily. I averaged 95-100% conversion rate of admissions and frequently had the most hospice admissions monthly.

Self Employed Independent Sales Director:

Responsibilities included the recruitment and development of a sales team. I instructed and educated on goal setting, income-producing activity, sales, marketing strategies, financial management, and time management. With in one year I successfully recruited 70 personal team members, had a $6,000.00- $10,000.00 monthly production and earned the use of a free car.

Served in the 324th Combat Support Hospital based in Perrine, FL.

I entered the USAR in 1993 as a first Lieutenant/ Critical Care RN. I was quickly asked to take on the additional role of mobilization officer. This role was slotted for a Lt. Col. Responsibilities included the tracking and maintenance of the entire hospital’s policy and procedure manual’s encompassing all from nursing to logistics. In short if our section failed the entire hospital failed inspection by Higher Headquarters. I was also the officer in charge of the development and coordination of a mass mobilization exercise involving over 600 soldiers. We passed the hospital inspection which had not been passed in over seven years. Higher Command also reported the mass mobilization exercise was one of the best they had seen.

I was awarded several Army Achievement medals for my contributions and leadership.

In 2003, I received honorable discharge from the USAR with the rank of Captain.

Secret Security Clearance maintained during this tenure.
