Data Mining Value Proposition for Industry verticals

Prepared a document defining value proposition of Oracle Data Mining for telecom and financial services industries which were subsequently used by Sales consulting and product management to articulate implementation solutions for customers

Capacity Planning

Developed a capacity-planning guide document in consultation with product development and pre-sales organizations to help Oracle Data Mining customers and sales consultants provide accurate estimates of computing resources needed for performing data-mining tasks.

Coordinate Security compliance

Coordinated and led compliance of Oracle Data Mining product with secure coding practices to prevent vulnerabilities such as buffer overflows and SQL Injection. Effort resulted in finding numerous potential vulnerabilities, and also improved the development process to reduce incidence of such problems.

Design and Development of in-database implementation of Decision Trees

Designed and implemented decision-tree algorithm to scale for very-large datasets in the Oracle RDBMS kernel. This fulfilled a long-standing customer demand and bolstered Oracle’s data mining offering compared to competitors. 2 patents were filed as a result of this effort.

Design and Development of in-database implementation of BLAST

Designed and developed the in-database implementation of BLAST (a genetic sequence-matching algorithm). This obviates the need for genomic data to be moved outside the database, and provides customers a very powerful tool to combine sequence matching with the power of SQL queries. This is typically used by large Pharmaceutical companies to build analytical pipelines for new drug development and will cut costs significantly by streamlining the research processes. 1 patent was filed as a result of this effort.

Design of Non-Negative Matrix Factorization (NMF), used in text-mining (Oracle Text), latent semantic analysis

Designed and led the implementation of NMF and Association rules by team members in Oracle 10g SQL Engine. 1 patent was filed as a result of this effort.

Together these helped differentiate Oracle’s solution as the only true in-database mining in the industry. In a recent META report, Oracle Data Mining has been placed in the leader’s quadrant.
