Professional Work History
Quality Specialist 2010 to Present
Faurecia Emissions Control Technologies, Chattanooga, TN
Automotive Exhaust System Manufacturer.
New "just-in-time" manufacturing plant start up to make automotive exhaust systems for Volkswagen.
Develop standardized work instructions and Quality Assurance program documentation.
Perform all product manufacturing Quality Control functions. (weld analysis, supplier quality, internal product audits...)
Evaluate robotic weld cell production capacity, product quality, and efficiency.
Evaluated overall plant production capability.
Identify inefficiencies and potential failure modes.
Provided numerous improvement ideas to assure product quality at required production rate.
Senior Mechanical Engineer 2007 to 2008
Cleveland Tubing, Inc, Cleveland, TN
Corrugated Plastic Tubing Manufacturer.
Made improvements to plastic extrusion dies and down-line production equipment.
Developed an Anti Back-up Mechanism that improved product feature repeatability by 500%.
Developed a packing machine to simplify packing of multiple products into one carton at once.
Implemented a new die design that was instrumental for insuring product strength.
Product Engineer (contract) 2006 to 2007
Schenck Rotec Corporation, Orion, MI
Balancing Machine Manufacturer.
Provided leadership and technical management for the design and build of production rotating balancing machinery. Interpreted as sold contract, modularized overall design structure, developed performance specifications and statements of work, solicited quotes, subcontracted outside engineering, reviewed designs, released designs for purchase, followed up on the manufacturing floor during assembly.
Simplified design of a spindle air union and connection; eliminating 75% of the parts.
Compressed design schedule to 50% by outsourcing much detail design work.

Mechanical Engineer - Product Development 1995 to 2006
ITW Balance Engineering, Troy, MI
Balancing Machine Manufacturer.
Provided mechanical engineering expertise in product development of rotating production balancing machinery. Analyzed design issues affecting product performance, reliability, and cost. Lead product value analysis program to identify and prioritize product features from the customers' perspective; and to stimulate creativity in developing new ideas focused on providing those value features at reduced costs. Developed new prototypes based on those ideas and implemented them as standard designs with improved performance at lower costs.
Analyzed the design of failing spindles and developed new concepts to resolve the issues; resulted in a new prototype that remained in service 300% longer than the predecessor.
Created a simplified "hook" tooling design that reduced set-up time to from one day to one hour.
Corrected design deficiencies of a crankshaft balancing machine cradle, significantly improving machine reliability, performance, and ease of assembly.
