1. Developed initiators and monomers for polymerization by organic synthesis.
2. Synthesized biocompatible polymers by living radical polymerizations, such as atom transfer radical polymerization (ATRP) and reversible addition-fragmentation chain transfer (RAFT) polymerization.
3. Characterized the polymers by various techniques, such as GPC, HPLC, H-NMR, FTIR, TGA and DSC.
4. Functionalized biocompatible polymers, e.g., poly(methacrylic acid) (PMAA) with fluorescent labels, quantum dots and antibodies as additives and colorants in surface coatings.
5. Demonstrated the conformation, kinetic viscosity and permeability of polymer complexes and surface coatings by AFM, SEM, HPLC, ATR-FTIR, DLS, FRAP and ellipsometry.
