Landing Gear Design for Piper Arrow IV 28R201

- Carried out a step by step analysis and design of a Piper Arrow IV 28R201 landing gear by considering cost, weight, reliability, strength, airfield compatibility, and overall aircraft integration.

- The landing gear needed to be improved so as to meet certain requirements that included: reducing the weight, have a minimum length for accommodation during retraction, safe locking for landing, corrosion resistant, to be able to take impact landing due to speeds of up to 12ft/s and does not break even if landing at 16ft/s.

- Ensured that all designing conformed with FAR, FAA, ISO, SAE standards.

- Once all the required information was gathered and necessary calculations were done, a final design was conceived that satisfies the desired technical performance.

- Decreased the total weight of the landing gear by reducing the mass of wheel rim, brake disc, shock absorber, caliper and lowering mechanism link. This was done by using alternative materials and dimensions that satisfied all mechanical technical performance and standards.
