• Managed fabrication and welding shop, improving throughput by 20% by designing fixtures, adding material handling equipment and forming work cell techniques.

• Designed and implemented a PDM system for control of engineering drawings.

• This system controlled client supplied electronic and hardcopy data as well as in-house generated designs.

Computer aided ergonomic analysis was preformed on all tasks to insure operator safety and compliance with OSHA. Designed upgrade to robotic wafer cleaning station to increase throughput and decrease downtime.

• Designed high efficiency vacuum system for Research Crystal Puller, including pump instrumentation and cleanout system.

• Assisted the scientists in running experiments by providing specialty designed equipment and modifications to existing equipment as required.

• The crystal technology group of R&D does experimentation on growing single crystals of silicon in high temperature vacuum furnaces.

• Much of the work in this area concerned material selection and heat transfer analysis within the high temperature furnace.

• In addition work was done on feeding raw material into the vacuum furnace and since being able to seal the high vacuum and maintain it integrity.

• The Thin Films Group had developed the technology for a solid state ph sensor which Monsanto wished to set pilot plant manufacturing for.

• Developed manufacturing methods and equipment to produce pilot quantities which could be easily expanded into full scale production.

• Required a redesign of for sensor probe including new materials of construction and new production methods.

• With these changes, existing laboratory plasma sputtering equipment was able to be utilized rather than purchasing new production equipment at a cost savings of 1.2 million dollars.

• Design work on this project included modification to high vacuum sputtering equipment, fixturing and design of automated assembly equipment, selection and design of extreme environment elastomer seals and design of metal-ceramic seals and methods of manufacture.
